Comments Thread For: Hearn Details Meeting With Haymon, Finkel About Joshua-Wilder

NEW YORK Before he headed to Times Square for a press conference, Eddie Hearn had breakfast Thursday morning with Al Haymon and Shelly Finkel. England's Hearn, whose company promotes British superstar Anthony Joshua, met face-to-face with Haymon and Shelly Finkel for the first time to discuss the eventual showdown between Joshua (20-0, 20 KOs) and fellow heavyweight knockout artist Deontay Wilder (39-0, 38 KOs). Haymon, Wilder's adviser, and Finkel, Wilder's manager, will represent the WBC champion in all negotiations for the Joshua fight.

We all know it's not next, nor should it be. But it's a positive that they're meeting already and hopefully it can be the second fight of the year for both fighters.

Credit to Wilder for drumming up interest to speed up the process.

Credit to Hearn for dropping the Whyte nonsense and agreeing to discuss the AJ fight instead.

Hopefully Joshua and Wilder both look dominant in their next fights so Joshua-Wilder can be as big as possible without any further wait beyond that.

Joshua-Parker and Wilder-Whyte next. After that, they will fight each other.

AJ started this mess by going on sky sports weeks ago and saying the fight could happen in 2019-2020

            That felt like ducking

Agreed! It is either summer 2018 or end of next year. Every sensible Wilder fan probably knew this is what is most likely. The annoyance, in my opinion, is the stalling and condescending behavior by Eddie towards Wilder.

I think AJ's management team thinks he needs 2 - 3 more fights at minimum before fighting Wilder. AJ even hinted at that - but instead of owning up to that, Eddie comes out and says AJ wipes the floor with Wilder in 3. This is what I think finally pissed off Wilder and led to the increased trash talking from the latter.

No one wants to see Whyte.
Wilder should fight J.Miller next if no Joshua

Trust me, I don't want him to, But think about this; if you're Hearn, you offer Whyte as a pawn to fight Wilder in the UK, this way Wilder's name could get more recognition there. That would make Joshua-Wilder a much bigger fight. Wilder could careless because he's pocketing $2-3 million to fight a bum like Whyte.
