Because he claimed to be SEVERELY dehydrated in that fight. So why would you look at the weight for a fight when he had a medical emergency caused by his body being drained?

He was 248 the first time he beat Arreola, which was his big coming out party.

So while he surely wasn't in the best shape of his life last week, the idea that he came in grossly out of shape because a 39 year old man weighed 254 after weighing 248 for his big career making victory when he was 34 years old just seems histrionic to us.

Fighters who go up that much in weight have a problem and you don't actually know, as neither does anyone here, how much his dehydration was impacted by water weight per se. Dehydration occurs often with Kidney problems, and other medical problems and it is an assumption that his weight was a factor in his problem. What we do know is that coming into his last fights fat was not to his advantage and doubtful it was the cure for his dehydration.

In other words, while accusing others of melodrama using a term usually reserved for psychological affects, a term popularized in psychoanalysis for when Sigmund Freud noticed behavior in women contrasted by whether these women had a Uterus, or a historectemy uterus removed, you make a monumental assumption regarding Stiverne...one that goes upstream from common understood training for a prize fighter. You assume his medical issue was not only due to his weight loss, but that it was rectified by him putting on what? how many pounds of fat? Even if this were true he might put on muscle, if anything, but it probably is not true because it is highly unlikely Stiverne's weight was an issue related to his dehydration.

Just use your common sense and ask if Bermaine looked ready to fight Wilder. He was soft looking, could not move around the ring evasively, he looked uncomfortable... In professional prize fighting its almost never good to come in heavy by as much weight as he did...even if it is muscle!

Many times people throw around very disconcerting language, things they would not say to a fighter directly. There are also times a fighter does something that is reprehensible, it works both ways. For this guy to show up in the condition, or lack of condition, he did made him imo a suitable target of derision. He is not a young fighter and he had a chance to fight for something that many would love the opportunity to fight for...and he shows up unprepared to fight.

That is acting like a near do well, a bum, a fatty!!!! I would put it more diplomatically but what a waste of time and then to complain about the blow to his head... Yeah its possible he got hit illegally, but what can the ref do when he is not even in condition to sustain himself and carry on? Should he have disqualified Wilder? Thats a judgement call, I do not think so. The punch was not flagrant it resulted partially because Stiverne was moving out of the way while the punch was coming forward.

So the ref docs Wilder a point... Stiverne still went down with legal punches. Wake that man up and tell him it was only a 10-9 round before he went down. Thats all one can really do because it was obvious Stiverne was not prepared to fight.

He looked pretty much the same as he did against Arreola five years earlier. If anything, his upper body actually looked more toned last week than it did against Arreola.

He didn't get himself into the best shape of his life, but this idea that he was grossly out of shape, didn't train, etc, is complete nonsense perpetuated by lazy media and even lazier fans.
