Comments Thread For: Lighter Wilder Won't Worry About His Weight for Future Fights

Weight effects more balance TAKING punches in this instance . Power comes from your core not your legs and Wilder finally proves that point ive been saying against the old guard for a long time .
We will see how he takes a punch at 220 but he hasn't exactly fought a power puncher yet and weight COULD effect the punch resistance ,if you dont believe that go ask Ali Bashir who (like ive said ) would have Wilder at 240 for punch resistance bc 220 at 6'7 is not ideal .Comment

I like Wilder fan although I’m not too thrilled to hear about the out of the ring antics with the Breazeale episode. Kinda disappointed but then again not really too surprised either by today’s “professional athlete” etiquette and standards of behavior and manners,....or lack thereof. But aside from that, Wilder has survived and done very well so far on his power and less than stellar fundimentally based boxing skills. I’ve seen this in some of his last few fights as the competition has risen, he hasn’t had quite the ease of dispatching his opponents. I have a feeling this is going to catch up with him in do time if he doesn’t address the flaws in his craft. And while he may be ok at his weight giving power shots to his opponents, taking them at his height and weight might not bode too well for him when he meets up with a real power puncher that can rock his entire frame with one punch. You can’t fight back off balance and taking big jabs with power to move your upper body on stilt legs isn’t exactly a recipe for a winning strategy.
If wilder wants to go for the big names in the HW division he has some serious decisions to make. Number one is to hire a better coach/manager and work on his boxing technique, and number two hire a strength and conditioning coach and build up those legs into steady tree trunks that can support a power shot. Otherwise he may end up doing the Floyd Mayweather stilt leg dance one day if he ever gets a real bell ringing shot to the chin.Comment

Wilder has functional length and power, he doesn't need to be a fat, roided up bodybuilder like Joshua to get the job done.Comment
