Comments Thread For: Lighter Wilder Won't Worry About His Weight for Future Fights

NEW YORK Deontay Wilder is much more concerned with his wait than his weight. The 6-feet-7 Wilder weighed in at just 220 pounds for his first-round destruction of Bermane Stiverne in their mandatory rematch Saturday night at Barlcays Center in Brooklyn. The unbeaten WBC heavyweight champion was eight-plus pounds lighter than his career high of 229 and 34 pounds lighter than his opponent.

He looks OK to me, it works. Nasty MF, in the vernacular.

Lighter, still packing the power. Helps him out with the gas issue other heavy weights have.

I definitely think there is some truth in that, and speed to some extent

It looks like he's less muscled than he was when he became a name , he doesn't want to be bulky but he could do with another 10lbs especially on his legs, eat more protein bro in camp

Speed kills....Wilder's speed is one of his key components and its because he is able to manage his weight unlike some of his colleague heavyweights.
I hope AJ team can help him control his weight.
I can't weight to witness the showdown between them.

Wilder is ripped, much less bodyfat than most other heavyweights which i think has a lot to do with it, but he does have those chicken legs he needs to build up. I was in the army with a country guy from alabama, tall and somewhat lanky like wilder but he was the strongest guy in our battery if not the battallion, he had superhuman strength and you would never guess it by looking at him. Anyways i just wonder if hed be able to withstand a bomb to the chin by AJ thats the question because if he can he has a good chance of dancing around him all night and jabbbing him to death and take over in the later rounds when AJ gasses out

He's tall and he still hits really damn hard, so I'm not sure that I see it as an issue either, especially if it means he's lighter on his feet. I think him being lighter than all of his opponents isn't an issue either in light of the fact that the typical heavyweight nowadays is a complete lard monster.

Wilder just Knocked out a 254 pounder with ease, he will have no issues with weight on future fights at all.
