AJ's got nearly 15x more followers on instagram than Wilder and nearly double what Canelo has so I think it's clear AJ is the biggest global star. Eddie has been clear AJ needs to be built in the US before the Wilder fight. These numbers make Wilder look like a ****ing moron, "it's a big fight now", "it will do more PPV than Canelo-Golovkin because we're heavyweights". Stick to fighting Deontay, good job you've got Haymon looking after you.
As has been noted many times, Showtime's boxing ratings are extremely misleading. Showtime makes their fights available in many ways that HBO refuses to do, which makes the announced Showtime viewership lower than it would be otherwise.
Showtime boxing streams live on Showtime Anytime and those viewers are not counted towards the announced viewership. HBO GO refuses to stream fights because they're concerned about the bad PR when it lowers the announced number.
Showtime very quickly uploads the full show to Showtime Anytime to be viewed on demand and those viewers are not counted towards the announced viewership. HBO GO refuses to post the full show, and only posts the fight bell to bell, and they wait until Tuesday to post it because they're concerned about the bad PR when it lowers the announced number.
There is absolutely no incentive to watch the live linear feed of Showtime because you can watch the fight anywhere you want on any device you want, including your television using a gaming console, ROKU, the SmarTV's in device app, etc, none of which is included on the publicly announced number.
Whereas with HBO, if you don't want to have to wait until Tuesday to watch part of the show (they never post the full show), you have to watch live or record the linear feed on your DVR, both of which count towards the publicly announced number.
So everybody that's always criticizing the publicly announced Showtime number needs to realize that Showtime itself has made every effort possible to make it as easy as possible to watch their fights, even though it lowers the publicly announced number. They clearly don't care. They want their customers to be happy and that is more important to them than optics.
HBO on the other hand makes sure it is as annoying and as frustrating as possible to watch their fights in any way that won't count towards the publicly announced number.
People out here comparing numbers from a fight that was late in the afternoon on the last Saturday in the month while folks are getting prepared for parties or family outings with the kids.
That's what happens when any fight that is broadcast in the afternoon...add to that the fact that it is on Showtime instead of HBO.
What makes it even funnier is that some people think Wilder is the "A" side in negotiations in reference to a potential match against Joshua. AJ made about 11 million dollars in the fight last weekend. Wilder can't even get close to 5 within the US.
Already beat A.J's numbers in the first fight with 1.34 million and Stiverne was no superstar neither was Deontay back then...but throw A.J a bone by combining both telecast. American fans are in for a treat with a undercard that blows Joshua-Takam and the Bellend-Gaymaker combined, I cant wait -- The KING returns this Saturday.
Lol you crazy Wilder vs Stiverne fight was in the Usa those numbers are suppose to be high it's a Home grown match Now lets see what the numbers were when that same fight was shown in the UK.....Thats how you compare smh
No one wanted to see this fight but there's no need to panic. I still think Joshua needs a fight against an opponent with a name in the U.S. Selling out arenas is great but he still needs some of that PPV revenue.
