Comments Thread For: UFC's White is Firm: We May Start Doing Stuff in Boxing in 2018

For the second time in the last few weeks, UFC President Dana White has made it clear that his company will explore the idea of promoting and staging boxing events in 2018. Back in August, White was a big part of the promotion for the cross-sport boxing match between comebacking Floyd Mayweather Jr. and the UFC's biggest superstar, Conor McGregor.

Welcome UFC! It's about time. Everyone email this link to Bob Arum. Get that blood pressure going. The reaper is lurking. Ole Bob just needs that extra push.

In other words, I’m doing as much media as I can right now, so we can set up may-mcgregor 2.

Well f#ck me. Didn't see that coming & I think I called the couple guys saying that was coming ****** or silly or unrealistic or something bad. So my apologies to them & respect on that call for the guys who called it.

That said wtf kinda boxing show can Dana put together with how boxing works? Boxing, largely anyway & seemingly more in the US than abroad, requires name guys. And people wanna see name guys fight name guys before they'll buy a ticket. So how many f#cking guys can Dana sign with name guys being locked into deals with promoters or a network almost across the board?

Did Haymon & Dana discuss working together? Cuz Dana & Haymon joining forces is about the only thing I could envision Dana doing that would seem impactful out of the gate in boxing.

If they just wanna do some random club shows with random unaffiliated boxers & some older or less successful MMA guys who wanna try out boxing then fair play with that, but that isn't gonna be THAT good of a moneymaker so idk why Arum's panties would be in a bunch of over that.

Weird. But curious what this would look like.

I've see a lot of boxing promoters, successful and not so much. If he cares about the talent, and puts work into decent shows he might have a chance. If all he wants is money, the snakes will get him. Ask 50 cent.

Is it Dana "dipping" his toes in as a promoter or the UFC?

Brother you can't compare Dana to 50 Cent. 50 Cent never even promoted a show iirc. Dana has promoted hundreds of MMA cards. Dana is one of the top promoters in all of combat sports. And there isn't THAT much difference in putting on a MMA event & a boxing event.

Now how boxing works outside the ring is a whole other thing than how MMA works outside the ring, but I trust Dana to have a much more steady trigger finger on his decision making than 50 Cent had. I just don't know how a UFC Boxing Promotion can be THAT impactful of a promotion with there being very few free agents to pick up at any given time so the splash they first make is gonna be small or they will need to team up with someone & Haymon would be the first guy I'd think of to team up with Dana potentially since all his fighters are free agents largely & he's always in dire need of a promoter for his shows.

Sh^t man if Dana & Haymon joined forces to make some sorta UFC/PBC promotion that sh^t might actually do some damage cuz Dana is real as f#ck & idk many cats who can hang with him verbally in boxing. Bob has a heart attack inside of a year with all the yelling he does about Dana if Dana does make some sorta big move into boxing with or without a partner.

It sounds like the "we" is meant to be the UFC. I got the podcast on my queue doe so I'll confirm after I listen to it if no one else has confirmed before then.
