Comments Thread For: Arum: UFC's White is Desperate - PPVs Dwindling, No Marquee Star

Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum has once again come out swinging in the direction of UFC President Dana White. The two combat sports executives have traded words on numerous occasions in the last few years. A few days ago, White appeared on The Unnamed Podvideocast, and stated that his company could potentially promote boxing events in the future.

“I could see bringing boxing under our umbrella and trying to see what we could do with that,” White said (h/t Sherdog.com). “I could see doing that.”
Now, White’s comments have reached the ears of Top Rank CEO Bob Arum. In a rather unsurprising twist, Arum crapped all over White’s boxing ambition, criticizing the UFC and suggesting the organization is growing “desperate.”

“My thoughts are that UFC is desperate,” Arum told NY Fights. :Their numbers are way off, they have no marquee star. Look at their PPV numbers. They barely break 100,000 homes on their shows. They’re having trouble getting renewal on their contract with FOX. They have to do something. One of things they may try and fall back on and try and acquire a boxing presence. About a year ago, I was approached by someone repping UFC, they wanted to buy Top Rank.”
Arum also trashed White and his cohorts for their greed, suggesting the UFC business model is all about putting money in the pockets of its executives, not its fighters.

“You have to understand, UFC is a monopoly, the money they earn on a fight because they pay their athletes 20 percent of the gross, we pay around 80 percent, what they say they’re investing back in the business, they’re investing in themselves, they put money in their pockets!” Arum said. “That’s not investing in anything. In boxing, there are a large number of promoters, and when a promoter has a successful event and there’s a profit he earns, he puts it back in the company. What the **** is White talking about? White is speaking from desperation now, he’s the spokesperson for what could be a failing business!”

What do you think of Bob Arum’s comments on Dana White?

Yeah Arum defines the phrase "the tea calling the kettle black" but he made guys like Brandon Rios millionaires whereas champs in the UFC barely hit 6 figures.

Sounds like ArScum has been stressing about this since they Bossed him and offered to buy his company.

Stress is the silent killer, so lets all start writing Top Rank and asking them the sell to UFC. Even simple emails will stress Arum out. Trust me, the guy is a miserable paranoid worry-wart who thinks everyone is trying to undermine him at every angle. Just a little more stress and he will die.

            To whom it may concern,

Please do your part in welcoming UFC into the Boxing arena. As a fan, the idea of UFC's incredible format tingles my blood. I would be willing to pay top dollar for any Boxing match presented by the incredible folks at UFC. If UFC were to acquire Top Rank's roster, this would give the UFC a great boost in competing with the bigger promotional companies like Golden Boy Promotions and Mayweather Promotions.

The success of Golden Boy Promotions and Mayweather Promotions is due to us fans being more willing to put our hard earned dollars down on fights promoted by men who have been Champion Boxer's themselves, and got into this sport for glory not money. All of whom sacrificed their health and efforts for years before every earning a single dime. The folks at UFC get it, and they match the best fighters together rather than ruining their fighters careers in order to line their own pockets.

Top Rank has a stellar history and did some significant promotions back in the days of Muhammad Ali, which us fans respect. By acquiring a company like Top Rank with such deep roots, the UFC will be able to move Top Rank and its fighters into the foray with the big dogs like Golden Boy Promotions and Mayweather Promotions.

For the sake of the fans, the sport and the fighters who dedicate their lives to the greatest sport in history, please do your part by allowing the UFC to acquire Top Rank or by helping them into the sport of Boxing.

Our hard earned dollars cannot wait to be spent on UFC formatted Boxing matches!

            Kind regards,

Old Bob nailed it right on the head... I think at night he probably does conference calls with Don King... over 50 years both those guys, and they're still in the game ...regardless of what people write about either of them, we would not have this magnificent sport to the level where it is today without them... anyone contradicts this you don't know boxing, especially after coming out of the doldrums in the 50''s with Frankie Carbo...
