  • Comments Thread For: Kovalev vs. Shabranskyy Approved For Vacant WBO World Title

Sergey Kovalev won't get the third crack at Andre Ward that he wants, but he can become a light heavyweight champion again in his next fight. The WBO announced through its Twitter account Thursday that its championship and ratings committee has voted to sanction Kovalev-Vyacheslav Shabranskyy as a fight for its vacant light heavyweight title. Russia's Kovalev (30-2-1, 26 KOs) and Ukraine's Shabranskyy (19-1, 16 KOs) are scheduled to fight November 25 in The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York.

How is it deserved? For Kovalev, yes, I agree. But for Shabransky, who just got Ko'd by Sullivan, how is it deserved? Sullivan is more deserving than Shabransky is

I agree. Barrera must be gutted to have missed this opportunity, way more deserving than Shabransky

I meant for kovalev...I guess the Barrera fight negotiations broke down..Barrera will probably be mandatory for bivol..which I expect him to win

Well he turned down the Kovalev fight over $$, so it's kinda his fault. Rather fight some bum on the undercard for much less $$

Exactly. He turned down the Kovalev fight because the money would be low.... turns out now there is a belt on the line.

I am sure he would gladly take the fight up today.

                    Absolutely true.

The thing is, if he did fight Kovalev and lost, it would effectively be the end of his career.
