Evolution of the sport. Back in the day the fighter who scored the knockdown didn't need to go to a neutral corner. Fighters would play knocked out or unconscious and JUMP UP... with like 1 second left. They didn't really score TKO's from knocking someone down much.

I'd much rather keep it that way. I've seen fights stopped way too soon because of how someone is lying on the canvas, only to see him get up and be fine not long after.
