Comments Thread For: Schaefer: Dorticos-Gassiev One of Boxing's Most Exciting Fights

HOBOKEN, N.J. If Murat Gassiev gets past a tough, experienced ex-champion on Saturday night, it'll set up one of boxing's most fascinating fights of early 2018. The winner of Gassiev's IBF cruiserweight championship defense against Poland's Krzysztof Wlodarczyk will advance to the semifinals of the World Boxing Super Series cruiserweight tournament. Cuban knockout artist Yuniel Dorticos (22-0, 21 KOs), the WBA champion, awaits the winner of their scheduled 12-rounder at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

I hope one of the networks (SHO, HBO, ESPN) at least picks up the finals!

Can't look past Diablo granted hes not looked very good in recent memory but he's a tough sob who typically does well against pressure fighters.

Oh sh^t. Yea that'll be a good one too. I like Gassiev to make it to the finals, but Dorticos is a sleeper vs Gassiev & in the tournament overall. I was surprised in the ease at which he took out the Russian Hammer. Not that I think THAT highly of the Russian Hammer cuz he's basically just a ****** hard puncher, but I though ring rust would make that fight a lil more interesting then it did.

Dorticos is my favorite to win the tournament. I expect him in the final with Usyk.

This cruiserweight tournament truly is boxing at its best.

The only complaint I have is that it's not on American tv.

Kudryashov really is only a puncher. You can hear the power when he punches, and I really wonder if he's one of the hardest punchers ever, but what good is it if you don't land a clean shot on your opponents chin? Disappointing he's basically at his limit, I think he's around 31 so his prime is practically over.

Gassiev, on the other hand, is young as ****. Had no idea he was as young as he was against Lebedev. Can't wait to see him stomp this fight, and then go up against Dorticos. We'll really see if he's improved since his fight against Lebedev (which he definitely won).
