Cotto loses most all big fights and gets battered. The great Antonio Viva'Margarito the Aztec War god of mexico battered Cotto senseless and left Cotto slumped in the corner. Viva' Antonio the great warrior.
Then Antonio turned around and got battered by Shane. It's boxing. You when some lose some. Respect
Garcia just fought Broner @ 140. Roach and Arum said multiple times that Manny could easily make 140.
Sounds like ducking excuses to me.
Garcia for the Broner fight came in fight night at 150 approximately and was soft. Cotto for his last fight came in at 163 and was lean and solid.
That is a HUGE natural size difference. Cotto would of caught so much heat if he fought Garcia.
you mean the PED juiced shane who got away with that for years??
Antonio tried to cheat against him. But Shane didn't cheat the fight he smashed Antonio. And if you say we don't know if Shane was juiced then My rebuttal will be we don't know if Antonio has been using plaster for years. It's possible. Hell margs might have been juicing AND using plaster. Food for thought
Cotto will be criticized no matter who he fights. At some point, fans have a way of bashing any opponent selection.
Unfortunately I think we sometimes have some grand, dream scenario of a fighter going out with the biggest win of his career in the toughest fight possible. Ali didn't retire after beating Foreman or Frazier. He retired after beating losing to Berbick who they probably thought he'd win against to go out on a high note.
This fight isn't about proving something to the fans or pundits. It's about having a winnable retirement fight to attempt going out with a win at The Garden for his fans.
It would be unfortunate if he loses, but I think the risk is worth leaving a winning last impression on his New York Puerto Rican fans.
He's content with what he's accomplished and we shouldn't try to push him to derail what will make him happy (retiring with a win in NYC) just because we think he should take a risky fight.
