I wonder if the fact that Groves likes to box and counter punch from the outside will produce a rather boring affair with Eubank who likes it when someone pressures him and is uncomfortable with counter punchers. We shall see.
Thank you.
All this talk of eubank swarming groves. Eubank is not a come forward fighter.
Styles make fights and no way will groves fight eubank like this. He knew cox would swarm him so had a wide stance from the start and sat down on power shots, he was also fighting a southpaw so neglected the jab a lot and was more reliant on range finding jabs followed with a right or lead rights. He'll be more cautious and fight behind his jab against eubank.
Groves is infinitely more mobile than all the guys Eubanks has fought since Saunders and Saunders showed that movement is what is difficult for Eubanks to deal with. And Groves has way more power than Saunders. And Groves has put himself back together since Froch but his loss to Jack showed some flaws too and perhaps he rededicated himself. He will be at his best for Eubank. He has power and movement and experience. But then there is the physical aspect and Eubanks has that youthful physical strength that he imposes on other fighters and breaks a fighter down. Both he and Groves got nice one punch powershots in their last fights so that is a nice setup. If Groves cannot hurt Eubanks by the 5-6th round, he would have to have a perfect fight and outbox Eubanks. Eubanks may be able to make more mistakes than Groves and still win but I'm not sure of the other way around. My guess is Eubanks will win using his physicality, youth, and athleticism......very slight pick toward him.
People are seriously saying Groves is a mover like Saunders? No way.
Saunders knows when to hold, turn and wait for the referee to re-establish distance. Groves just gets suckered into wars and pinned on the ropes. His footwork is not good enough to avoid Jamie Cox, what the hell do you think Eubank does to him?
This is easy work for Jr and he will smash that jaw like Froch did. There's also no indication that Groves has the power to hurt him.
It seems to be rare you see balanced opinions on here, just very definite opinions one way or the other... I agree with most of what's said both sides though here. So many unknowns, such a great match up. True crossroads fight coming up with Groves vs Eubank Jr... Big questions for me are can Groves deal with Eubank's ridiculous engine and the pace he fights at, but has Eubank really done it against top level opposition, how good is his power and will Groves be able to expose the holes in his gung-ho approach. For me, if Groves doesn't earn Eubanks respect in the first few rounds, he won't be able to keep pace and will get worn down and stopped on wobbly legs and a slightly suspect chin. Either way, can't wait.
