Yes or no, why or why not?

It would certainly help Spence and elevate his status. Garcia, not as much. It is a quality win for either of them, but Spence has the momentum on his side right now, while Danny is coming off a loss and hasn't had a good win since Matthysse.

Spence would beat him and Garcia would get knocked out in my opinion. Garcia is lightweight champ and too small for Cotto while Spence is a big welterweight with exceptional power. It really doesn't matter because Cotto is fighting a cherry pick and then retiring.

Sorry, I was thinking of Mikey Garcia. Danny Garcia is big enough but not good enough to beat Cotto.

he's talking about mikey garcia, surely. mikey was offered the fight but turned it down because the contract stipulated that he needed to sign long term.

and to answer the TS, superstar is rarified air in boxing. i consider a superstar to be somebody that has crossed over into the mainstream. tyson, de la hoya, mayweather, pacquiao, holyfield, leonard, ali, etc. i never even considered jones or hopkins superstars, just boxing stars and solid PPV draws. cotto was never really a superstar himself. just a top shelf draw among boxing fans and what i call "boxing casuals," who are casual fans that consume ppv and watch big fights.

i genuinely don't see any potential superstars in boxing today other than maybe alvarez if he can get wins when he steps up, or joshua. joshua will probbaly never be a massive ameircan draw, but he's making 20 million to fight kubrat pulev, and that speaks volumes about his drawing power in great britain.

DSG is good enough skill wise to compete with Cotto but too small. Mickey too small to.

if eitgher guy could beat cotto he'd get a huge boost among boxing fans. if they stopped him they'd start to inch their way into the PPV and pound for pound discussion, but i really don't see either crossing over to the mainstream, which is the real ticket to selling more than a few hundred thousand ppvs to mexicans on holiday, hardcore boxing fans, etc.

The media usually determines who will be a superstar.....unless you become your own boss & beat everybody like Floyd did.

Neither becomes a "Superstar" but Danny's stock maybe raises a little because he's looked like **** in his last few outings and Cotto for what it's worth is still a tough fight. Spence on the other hand just beat likely the best of the WW champs stopping him late. If he were to TKO Cotto I don't think it raises his stock anymore than where it already is.

It would help Spence because of momentum. Danny Garcia lost the momentum he had after Matthysse but this would give him a boost. If you're talking Mikey Garcia, going up to 154 and beating Cotto would be a big deal especially coming of a win over Broner.
