Comments Thread For: Saunders vs. Lemieux is More Realistic For February, March

As BoxingScene.com first reported a few days ago, the World Boxing Organization sent a letter to Billy Joe Saunders' promoter Frank Warren, that he needs to make a mandatory defense against David Lemieux of Canada. The sanctioning organization said Warren and Golden Boy have 30 days to make a deal - by November 9. If they can not make a deal by then, a purse bid will be ordered. Although if one of the parties is not satisfied with the negotiating process, they can request an immediate purse bid date. The minimum bid would be $200,000.

    Booooo.

They went from Lemieux-Cotto, to Cotto-Mikey Garcia, to at least Lemieux-Saunders, to now just Cotto-Ali, and nothing good for either Lemieux or Saunders this year, yet another year gone by where that is the case for Saunders (and aside from the fun Stevens fight, for Lemieux as well).

Very disappointing that with such big promoters involved, as well as HBO, they botched this whole thing so badly.

Lemieux is gonna end Saunders. Saunders might do a good outboxing Lemieux for a bit, but I see him getting caught at some point.

Hopefully Jacobs can get a shot afterwards. I think he beats both.

This is a good match up and finally a proper defence for Saunders, although I wish Suanders owuld take the GGG fight.

Saunders wins this with his typical boring UD protocol. Even if Lemieux is a live dog. And this after the Lemieux/Reyes fight being one of the best things to happen to David, having to go 10 with a solid fighter. Lemieux just doesn't seem to be able to do all that well vs good boxers, although he will have a few good moments in this fight.

I agree 100%. It's a mismatch in terms of skill set and IQ. But I expect David to give a good effort. His reputation greatly excedes his talent.

Hell Yeah... To say that Saunders didn't want to hear anything of Lemieux for a couple years is an understatement... I believe he will still try to avoid him...

I'm still confident this fight gets made for December 9th at the Copper Box Arena in London which was the Date that was already reserved by Warren for BJS's next fight.

It's up to Lemi to come to England for this fight as he's the challenger plus if needed to come down a bit on his asking price as if he wins, he would be a great alternative fight for Canelo in May if negotiations fail for GGG rematch for then.
