I see a lot of Eubank Jr. picks for the win but I wouldn't surprised if Brant makes the finals. I do think he'll make the semi-finals at least.
How do you think Rob Brant will do in the WBSS tournament?

He is a Sleeper like Dorticos in the WBSS Cruiserweight Tournament. A guy that could shock everybody and really make a name for himself in this Tournament! Only thing is that he is a Middleweight moving up to 168 for this Tournament so not sure what to expect from him at 168. Was hoping Ryota Murata would've got the win over N'Dam and then Rob Brant vs Ryota Murata would've been ordered. That didn't happen unfortunately and that is likely why he moved up and jumped into this Tournament
But he has a excellent trainer in Derrick James and he is part of a great Camp/Gym training with Spence Jr and Jermell Charlo so that could help prepare him for anybody in this Tournament -

Wouldn't be surprised if Braehmer beat him in all honesty. He's just there for the sake of somebody representing America. Possibly the weakest in the tournament (him or maybe Cox)
He's all kinds of ordinary. I don't see him as a darkhorse.Comment

I think people are hoping for some sort of Andre Ward type **** and looking at the odds hoping to make some big money but there is a very valid reason he's such a huge underdog.
He's mainly fought at Middleweight, beaten nobody of any note at all, looked crap vs journeyman and doesn't come close to passing any eye test.
Even if he beats Braehmer (old, faded, inactive and injury prone) he has Eubank Jr next, noway does Jr not smash Brant to pieces. He's levels and levels above anything Brant has displayed.
I'm prepared to eat crow. I don't think much of him and think he has no chance frankly.
Just there to represent America/make the numbers up. He's not even deserving of a spot in the tournament.Comment

To be fair he would have Smith next who doesn't seem that dynamic to me.I think people are hoping for some sort of Andre Ward type **** and looking at the odds hoping to make some big money but there is a very valid reason he's such a huge underdog.

What do you think of Smith?
I always come away from his fights more appreciative of his size and physical capabilities than any real appreciation of his skill. A few years ago he was blasting people out to the body and looked dangerous but now he looks a little one-paced. He was awful against Blackledge for example.Comment

Wouldn't he have to face the Smith/Whoever winner first?I think people are hoping for some sort of Andre Ward type **** and looking at the odds hoping to make some big money but there is a very valid reason he's such a huge underdog.

Ah that'd make sense. To be fair he would have Smith next who doesn't seem that dynamic to me.

You summed up my thoughts on Smith perfectly though I feel he possibly fights a bit up and down to competition level at times and seems to drift off midway through fights. He's a problem just as long as he can safely make the weight IMO
He's the biggest smw I've ever seen he'd even be a gigantic LHW, he's huge.
I had him as a favourite more due to his size and physicality than anything else at the start I think I still favour him but I'm definitely not quite as confident as I was though Skoglund was a lot better than I originally gave him credit for.Comment

Yeah appears its Smith next.
I think he deals with Brant as well, in style. I feel Skoglund is a bigger, more fundamentally sound version of Brant.
Don't see Brant beating Smith, Groves, certainly not Eubank Jr. Again I'm not sure he even beats Braehmer.
On one hand Braehmer is past his best, has been inactive, not fought at the weight for years - he's there for the taking but to me Brant is the sort of guy that Braehmer has a made a career out of fighting really.
He's spent his career hiding out in Germany feasting on opponents just like Brant.
Worth noting the fight is in Germany as well so Brant almost certainly will need to absolutely dominate him.
Old saying you need a knockout in Germany just to get a draw.Last edited by dan_cov; 10-09-2017, 11:56 AM.Comment
