I'd say so...no more ****** than Stevenson holding the lineal title hostage while not fighting the best in the division tho. Those guys just go by the original divisions...so technically 168 is lhw.

Is this a Lineal Title discussion or a Pacquiao thread, really?

And it can cut through the bullshht contrivance that the ~sanctioning bodies~ can sometimes be.

Vacating a Title, for example, because a fighter doesn't pay a fee is ******ed. And if that's the role of ~sanctioning bodies~ then **** them, **** their "Titles."

Pacquaio is a 6 division champion but you can make an argument that he is 8 because the lineage was pretty easy 126 - Hamed won all belts, vacated them lost to Barrera who lost to Pacquaio. At 140 Tszyu had all the belts, vacated a couple lost to Hatton who lost to Pacquaio.

Sometimes the lineage can be screwed up if the champ retires (Lewis for example) or moves up and vacates the titles then you basically have to start fresh or kill the lineage.

I just pointed out the bias in Rold's determining who he sees as lineal. If he used the same standard for everyone, Erdei would have lost his lineal claim when losing to Grachev. Grachev lost to Rodriguez who lost to Ward.

So under an unbiased standard you'd have Ward as lineal LHW champ and Canelo at MW.

            Or

Stevenson at LHW and Golovkin at MW.

            Pick what you want.

You realize that. We realize that. But the media pushed for years that the magazine title was the lineal title.

So when a promoter buys the magazine and changes all of the rules (as well as controlling the rankings), inevitably the luster of the lineal title will be lost.

Kovalev was Stevenson's mandatory and Stevenson agreed to the fight.

                    Kovalev refused to fight him.

But not recognised as the best (or no.1) necessarily, which is why the system is flawed.
