  • Comments Thread For: Hunter: 'Honest' Critics Will Remember Andre Ward as a Great

Virgil Hunter, who was the career trainer for Andre Ward (32-0, 16 KOs), says there is no way that his boxer can be remembered as nothing short of being a great fighter. Last month, Ward - at age 32 - announced his retirement from boxing. At the time of his retirement, the Olympic gold medal winner was rated by most as the top pound-for-pound fighter in the world and he held the IBF, WBA, WBO light heavyweight titles.

Never a big fan of Ward, however he did what great fighters do adjust and win fights. Maybe one more division championship and I would call him one of the greats. Feel he had it in him and still does. He will fight at least once more.

A living legend to me. Like Hunter said people are going to point at things that they like or don't like about any fighter and that's true every single fighter in the history of boxing has critics every single one of them it's just the way that people are programmed. But to keep it 100. Andre Ward hasn't lost a fight since he was 12 and Hunter says that he's never even seen him hurt. The last American boxer to win a Gold Medal in the Olympics. Undefeated Multi division unified champion. #1 Pound for pound fighter in the world. Oakland's own. ANDRE WARD!!!! THE GREAT ONE! Enjoy retirement champ..

I was one of Wards toughest critics and I thought he was gonna lose to Kovalev but I gotta congratulate Ward....in the words of Frank Sinatra he did it his way and fought tough competition....when he went up to Light Heavy and took out Kovalev....I knew he was The Man.....to bad he is retiring but I also saw chickenson sigh a big sigh of relief....Chickenson thought he was next.

I prefer Hunter over Roach any day of the week. Roach has the more catchier lines, but he uses the same predictions and breakdowns over and over again with no thought.
