Could it have been the different substances involved, perhaps Ortiz' history of using performance enhancing substances previously, or did Wilder change his mind behind the scenes and decide that he didn't want to fight Ortiz afterall? Or, one strong possibility is the fact that it was for the prestigious heavyweight title and if they had allowed the fight to proceed it might have set a dangerous precedent in quite a prolific fight - a decision which could tarnish the image of boxing?

Didn’t Ortiz’ manager just come out and say they held him out due to medical issues. And that Ortiz won’t lose his number 1 contender spot.
