As many recall, Eric Morales tested positive for a PED prior to the Danny Garcia rematch. With Garcia in agreement, the WBC allowed the fight to go ahead. Unfortunately, in perhaps a fight which created far more public interest, they decided not to allow Ortiz to go ahead with the Wilder fight, despite Wilder stating publicly that he'd still like to retain Ortiz as his opponent.
Could it have been the different substances involved, perhaps Ortiz' history of using performance enhancing substances previously, or did Wilder change his mind behind the scenes and decide that he didn't want to fight Ortiz afterall? Or, one strong possibility is the fact that it was for the prestigious heavyweight title and if they had allowed the fight to proceed it might have set a dangerous precedent in quite a prolific fight - a decision which could tarnish the image of boxing?

i cant imagine wilder put up much of a protest to be honest... fight could and should have gone ahead. If it was some moral thing of wilders to take a stand against PED users, he probably shouldnt have signed up to fight a recent PED user as a replacement.
The problem is that even if you believe Ortiz's lame excuse, it then means that Ortiz has been hiding a serious health condition that calls into question whether he should be competing in high level professional athletics. So of course the WBC is going to require Ortiz to undergo medical evaluations before determining whether it is safe for him to fight with such a severe blood pressure issue.
