Even if the money could have been worked out, Cotto said the weight was a major issue.

For the 2009 bout he had agreed to go down to 145 pounds, two less than the welterweight limit, and said it took its toll. If he had taken the rematch at 150, it would mean dropping 4 pounds below the junior middleweight limit, which is where Cotto has fought his four bouts since his loss to Pacquiao.

"If he wants a big name and wants to fight the best, no catchweight," Cotto said of Pacquiao. "Making catchweights is easy for them. They make the other guy have trouble making weight and they take advantage of that. I wasn't going to do that again. I am 154 pounds. I am not going to fight at a catchweight and make myself weak."

Canelo said the same thing after and it's only 2 pounds but for a guy like canelo that's a lot seeing as he was already killing himself to make 155

Well he should be. If people are cutting Golovkin slack because he's 35 we should have been hearing that for every Floyd fight for the past five years. Floyds 40 and people still call for him to fight the best/youngest/biggest opponents in ANY weight class from 147 to 160

I will mention the Pac/Cotto fight and remind everyone that this was the first time Pac had fought for a ww championship, whereas Floyd had fought twice at the lmw limit against champions, so the cw was dirty as hell.
Ill remind everyone that this was during re time period when many people think pacquiao was dirty using banned substances.

If Floyd wanted to drain him...he would have slapped him with a rehydration clause.....that's how you drain somebody.

Canelo entered the ring fully rehydrated and ready to work.

It's funny.... he was drained...but he showed more stamina against Floyd.

          Go figure.
Why didn't you respond to my reply about who has fought the most world champions, won the most titles, most titles in most divisions?

Also, Canelo probably did that because Floyd was never going to fight him at 154. It's on Canelo, but still basically a meaningless win given the weight and the inexperience.

If Canelo was so drained....why was his stamina so good in that fight???

I wonder why Floyd didn't put a rehydration clause on him???

That's how you drain a mofo.

Mayweather didn't do that....even though he could have.

Don't know. I barely remember the fight I wasn't paying much attention. Maybe it was a slow paced tactical boring match?

They would have rehydrated to a health(ier) weight by fight night, so who cares.

Well since you weren't paying attention.
Canelito showed better stamina against Floyd.

He admitted he got tired against Chavez Jr

                  Strange isn't it????

Cotto is a 4 division champ. Nelo is 3 division but 2 division champ.

it's all about age when comparing the two and where they are at weight. Cotto can fight at 154-160. Doesn't mean he needs to bottle at 160. Alvarez will most likely continue to 168-175 ending his career. at 152 Nelo could do without a problem at such a young age, and one time is fine. A real drained Alvarez today would be him at 154 for Mayweather 2. Not as drained as McGregor in the UFC, but drained.

Canelo rehydrated back to a comfortable weight

He didn't gass-out like he did against Chavez Jr.
