Actually Golovkin is much better than I thought. The Jacobs fight and now the Canelo fight showed he doesn't have to rely solely on his power to win. He has the skills to outbox the top Middleweights. The power is the icing on the cake.

he barely sc****d past two middleweights who are very good, but not great

he was being painted as being much better than that

Was he. I predicted a knockout of Jacobs but I also said he would more impressive if he won a decision. Most people that picked G to win predicted a KO. The thought was G is primarily a puncher. Right but wrong. He has boxing skills to get him out of trouble (so far) if his power fails. Canelo and Jacobs were supposed to "light Golovkin up like a Christmas Tree" according to his detractors. That didn't happen. Canelo spent the majority of the fight in a defensive posture. Being a defensive fighter doesn't mean retreating to the ropes and getting outlanded there. That's what happened. It doesn't mean retreating because you have to. If you want to see an example of defensive fighters that use their defense to provide opportunities to land punches look at Sweet Pea Whittiker or Willie Pep. Those guys were defensive minded to achieve a purpose. Canelo simply ran out of ideas. His defense was predictable and didn't vary. Jacobs and Canelo were outboxed. I think it's a commendable achievement when a fighter's primary weapon doesn't do it for him and he has the boxing skills to make up for it.

WHeb canelo was in a defensive posture.. it's because he was tired and needed to take a break to recoop... when this happened, ggg was unable to use his "skill" to power himself to a ko.... ko skill no power and slow. Lol... when canelo engaged... ggg was outmatched. If canelo somehow fixes his stamina issues in the rematch, it's a mismatch in canelos favor... casual

he was painted as a stone cold killer who could beat anyone from 154-168

those paintings were drawn by his team, by the media, and by a HUGE percentage of his fanbase

what I saw was a very good middleweight with limitations, who was being very well managed/matched

now I even see insiders coming to that conclusion

Are you for real?? Its a fanbase. That's what fans do for crying out loud. You sound shocked to discover this. Fan... Fanatic... Get it. There are a lot of fighters that have emotional fan bases. Its nothing shocking or unique to Golovkin or a one time thing that's never going to happen again. Put on your big boy pants and face reality.
