  • Comments Thread For: Virgil Hunter To Critics: Mayweather Deserves '50' For Last Win!

Veteran trainer Virgil Hunter, best known as the coach for recently retired Andre Ward, believes Floyd Mayweather Jr. rightfully deserves his "50" for beating UFC superstar Conor McGregor. Last month, Mayweather came back to the ring after two years of retirement and fought McGregor at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. It was McGregor's first professional boxing match.

I'm so tired of this nonsense. 49-0 is a HW record, so Wilder is closet to it at the moment. The most wins in a row without a defeat for a non-HW is 80/81-0. These guys are trying to re-write history, and the current generation of boxing fans are fanboys and sheep.

Count the 50? Let's be honest, which current active boxer WOULD have lost to McGregor? I think any fresher boxer with more power in his hands would of blasted Conor out in 2 and that's being generous.

Why would you compare Rocky's 1st opponents to Floyd's 50th? Wouldn't it make more sense to compare Rocky's 1st opponents to Floyd's 1st opponents, and then compare Rocky's 50th to Floyd's 50th? Lol...?

Or am I just, you know, talking crazzzyyyy here with my basic common sense? Then again, I don't think Virgil cares about making sense at this point, I think he just cares about making headlines. Best to ignore this, just like with his boxer, until actual best-vs-best fights, and entertainment for the fans, becomes more of a priority for them, rather than defending money grabs while turning down every single opponent in their own careers that doesn't represent a money grab where they get paid way more money than their boring, dirty boxing style brings in.

Just brainstorming here, but has the Nevada Commission, or any boxing governing body, ever considered a rule that says if a boxer retires, his trainer has to retire too, by rule?

          Asking for a friend......

Of course he deserves 50-0 how is this even a question?

If it's a asterisk so what? There's a million "asterisks" in boxing history.

Just sour g****s. Almost everyone wanted the McGregor fight.

              50-0. TBE.

I'm not going to go back and forth with you and this fanboy nonsense. It just takes one of these little midget weight fighters like roman running around with 40-0+ records to cherry pick to 53-0 or something and retirement. then, we'll be playing - fmw had a better competition at 50-0 than so and so at 53-0. 49-0 IS A DAMN HEAVYWEIGHT RECORD. I'M NOT GOING TO PLAY WITH THESE SOCIAL MEDIA REVISIONIST.

Dude, if they want to do that, then they could. And they would have the record.

The fact of the matter is that Mayweather owns the record for the most wins without a loss or a draw at retirement. This clearly includes all weight divisions. It's just the way it is. Whether you think that record is noteworthy is another question. Honestly, didn't even seem that it was anything special to Mayweather himself.
