Canelo isn't a smart fighter. He abandoned the center of the ring where he had some success. He retreated to the ropes. If Golovkin doesn't have the dominant jab like you say and can't cut off the ring like you say the Canelo was an idiot to go to the ropes voluntarily. He should of worked the body more I agree but then so should of Canelo. Speaking of jabs, Canelo didn't have an effective jab in that fight.

the ropes were safe, Canelo was setting traps
Golovkin could not hurt Canelo on the ropes..... he was hesitant to open up, and did not work the body at all
I said that Golovkin would be hesitant and non-committal when he realized how sharp Canelo was..... just like he was with Jacobs
and Canelo's jab was excellent
before that fight I would have said that Canelo is better than Golovkin in every department but two..... now I think he could be better in every department, period
the better fighter will make the better adjustments in the rematch..... just like Ward/KovalevLast edited by aboutfkntime; 10-01-2017, 02:37 AM.Comment

Last time I checked and watched the fight, Canelo was attacking the body. Not sure what Bernard Hopkins was watching. So either of following 2 happened:
1) Gennady Golovkin wasn't affected by Canelo's body punching, because he was just too tough to be affected.
2) Gennady Golovkin wasn't affected by Canelo's body punching, because his defense against body punching
was sufficiently good enough.
So the truth is, Canelo couldn't 'effect' Golovkin much with his 'INEFFECTIVE' body punching for either one of, or both of the reasons I mentioned above.Comment

That's the point. Why didn't he do it more often? Because he couldn't. Then other guy takes your weapons away. That's boxing. The whole point is people were talking about him stopping Golovkin to the body "because Kovalev". What nonsense. You must have heard or read about Golovkins whole career if you think he's vulnerable to the body since he's never been hurt or down.Comment
