I followed Andre Wards career when he was at Super Middle.....I was tough and critical at times but Ward always fought the best and left as The Man at Super Middle and Light Heavyweight....I have much respect for Ward.......Sad to see The Champ retire.....Alright Ward......Lets Go Champ!!!!!
What is there in retiring "undisputed"? Lol that means nothing in this day and age. You don't go from $5 million purses back to $1 million for a fight that does nothing for your legacy. It's not like he needs paychecks. You guys talk nonsense.
He just hit us with the Maidana. Took his money and went home. Not hard to understand.
Are you trolling or what, what part of "Adonis Stevenson is making minimum 3 million per regular fight", you didn't get.
In professional boxing, Unification describes a fight between two fighters who hold different belts under the jurisdiction of two different governing bodies. – The International Boxing Organisation (IBO) (MINOR)
– The Universal Boxing Organisation (UBO) (MINOR)
– The Global Boxing Union (GBU) (MINOR)
– The World Boxing Federation (WBF) (MINOR)
– The Boxing Union of Ireland (BUI) (MINOR)
– The European Boxing Union (EBU) (MINOR)
+ The International Boxing Federation (IBF) (MAJOR)
+ The World Boxing Association (WBA) (MAJOR)
+ The World Boxing Council (WBC) (MAJOR)
+ The World Boxing Organisation (WBO); went from minor to major in the late 1990s
In professional boxing, if one fighter manages to capture the titles of "ALL THE MAJOR ORGANISATIONS AT ONCE", this is known as "unifying" the title and the boxer is the "Undisputed" champion. The Undisputed champion of a weight class is a boxer who is recognized as "The World Champion" at that class by each boxing organization.

The process of making Unification fights, is to create Undisputed division leaders. However, most unified boxers fail to become Undisputed, because of losses, promotional disputes or networks rivalry. But there's one unhandsome factor which is called "Ducking".
Example: No losses, no promotional disputes, no networks rivalry, but you retire claiming there was not enough money to make anyhow, in the only fight which would set you up as the Undisputed division leader.
*This right here, it's Andre Ward ducking Adonis Stevenson.

Stevenson is the biggest money fight at 175.
Ward didn't want to end his career flat on his back.
That was the problem and always would be the problem. There is nobody for him to fight and why just stay busy. Ward is too good he has cleaned out two divisions now.
In before the triple G's start...
Ward gets **** on so much...I mean do people watch some of his fights? coach barry broke that fight down, take a look some time and learn something haters. Ward took Dawson apart technically and all people say is "buuut hhhe was weight drained" I bet half the aholes who say that never watched the fight.
Ward cleaned out his division and made it look easy, before that tournament everyone as saying how good Mirands, Froch, Kessler, and the rest of those fighters were. He made it look easy!
Then he goes and fights the next big opponent and still the braying of idiots. And now people saying he should fight Stevenson
GET the FVC out of here!!! Just really so ****** how people treat this guy, one of the greatest of this day and age. Yes let me preempt this: I am butt hurt my anuz chafes at the misguided ignorance regarding SOG.
That's just it. Money isn't an issue "all of a sudden". It was an issue with both Kovalev fights. You're right a Stevenson fight would make more money than the Brand or Barrera fight. But that's not saying much. Stevenson does not bring more money than Kovalev. Why? Only a select cache of fans view Stevenson as the best LHW. As such the way Ward beat Kovalev in fight 2 diminished the interest in a Stevenson fight. Like I said....the numbers aren't there. It's not even a ppv fight.
Stevenson earns more millions per fight than Kovalev.
Anyhow, it's copy/paste time:
So basically he retired because he knew he wasn't gonna see that much money again... makes sense I guess
Hunter completely contradicts Andre here. Andre says he retired because his body couldn't take it anymore. Hunter says there was no money at LHW and the risk of going up to CW or HW didn't match the reward. I assumed that money was behind Ward's retirement and Hunter confirms it here.
EDIT: That also means that Ward would come back if the money showed up. Maybe if we get someone to emerge from the Bivol-Beterbiev-Gvozdyk LHW triangle. Maybe if Bellew wins another title at CW. Maybe if a smaller boxer wins a title at HW.

Stevenson in Montreal would be Ward's biggest purse.
