Larry is no racist. Once went in half on a hooker with Larry down in Biloxi, the things he did to this black lady proves he is no racist.

HBO commentators are all characters even tho they get a lot things wrong ie Jim Lampley, Max Kellerman, Foreman and especially Harold Ledderman whos probably the worst boxing judge in TV right now.

I liked Emanuel Steward (RIP) the most, he knew most of the time where the fights were headed and easily the most level headed who didnt buy into the hype. I remember in the Barrera-Pacquiao first fight where everyone on the HBO team was making a big deal about the metal plate on Barreras head and ignoring Pacquiao. Emanuel then dismissed it and said Barrera should be more worried about Pacquiao instead of a small metal plate on his head.

Interesting thing is Larry Merchant was a catalyst in HBO losing both Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather to Showtime.

They forgave him for Tyson, but after Mayweather left they canned him.

Merchant expected black boxers to be more like Steve Urkell even though he went through a generation of black boxers.

The reality is that Merchant saw so many black boxers in his career.... he just never thought what Floyd would achieve in the ring and outside. It’s easy to love Dempsey doe.. Breaking a status quo can disrupt people with prejudice views, not that they are “100%” racist.

Let’s be real, everyone has an opinion be it on ********** or majorities. Mandella should be a good example about disrupting the status quo so that blacks could be on an even playing field.

I loved Merchant as THE guy to ask quetsions because he didn't pull punches. His best work came interviewing Naz and Floyd and both deserved to be asked some tough questions.

Larry is a legend. I often disagree with him but loved it when he called out the elephant in the room.

You can't correlate racism with what he says and if you try you're just clutching at straws.
