Why do they have to sell the Smith fight? Why Smith, rather than a Charlo, or J rock, or Lara? Like you said "Canelo returning to 154 for a belt". That's the whole purpose of choosing Smith, the belt.

Majority of the public never heard of smith before he won a belt over here, did you? Unless you are in tune with the UK fight seen. He fought Lara and vowed never to fight him again. Charlo? J Rock? Don't know. Contracts with othet networks? Haymon allowing certain fighters to fight hbo? Who the **** knows. My point is the belts help him sell fights to no name fighters over here. Unless they have a beef going on or something. Lara was a no name but he had the who canelo is ducking him thing prior and the press conference confrontation help him get that fight.

My case in point, Liam Smith. Not a name, not the best at 154. The only reason that fight happens is because of Smith's belt. Also Cotto. Sure Cotto was a name, but CAnelo didn't need to pay that sanction fee, and certainly didn't need to pay it again to defend against Khan. The only non title match for Canelo in the last 2 years has been Chavez.

It's hard to say he doesn't need belts when hes challenging for them and making merchandise saying "world champ"

My thing is, does he even fight Smith if Smith doesn't have a belt? No name, no money to the table, what draws Canelo to want Smith, other than the belt? It's hard to understand saying Canelo doesn't need a belt, when he fights a no name for what appears to be the sole purpose of a belt. Beside the belt, the only reason I see for the Smith fight is to be able to say "I'm not a middleweight "

Look at the schedule? Were those guys available?? And honestly all three are unknowns so quit acting like they're some damn known boxers outside of hardcore fans.

Lara fought in Miami and hes Cuban NO one showed up! Same for Charlo fight.

Now tell me how many ppl paid to watch Liam's last fight....What like more than both those other 2 COMBINED!

Lol. I have been accused of over thinking sh it sometimes. I just have a hard time thinking he doesn't at least want belts, when 4 of his last 5 have been title fights, with Saul being the challenger in 3 of the 5.

I watched the fight. GGG won the fight in my opinion. GGG goes to the body in the rematch and Canelo will be in trouble.
