yes and instead of turning down the fight he should be asking for more. in buisness you start at a low sum and work up. obviously it wasnt going to stop at 1.5 million. if toney wants the fight he'll demand more

if you get paid for the amount of risk involved in a fight than every journeyman fighter should get paid ten times as much as the name fighter they are facing. that is essentially what you are sayin correct? i mean a big name fighter risks nothing against a journeyman, and a journeyman runs the risk of being violenty knocked out. so say wlad klitschko fought andy sample, by your theory of risk/reward sample should get about 20 million (for the risks) and wlad about 50 bucks.

toney cant get 1.5 million anywhere else right now, and he said himself hed whoop wlads ass, so why not make 1.5 mill and a belt, he could then demand a much larger sum against the ragman/maskaev winner with it being a unification fight.

exactly. well said. this is a big opportunity for him and considering his performance against rahman he should be jumping at another title opportunity

Has there ever been a fighter who has gotten offered 4 title shots inside of a year, turned two down and failed in the other two?

Ruiz-Toney- Toney used steroids in preparation for the bout, which is probably why he was in decent shape and had the extra endurance in the later rounds. Banned, suspended, etc. Failed title shot.

Toney turns down a WBC title shot with Vitali.

Rahman-Toney- Toney does not use steroids, comes in at a record 237, looks ridiculously fat and performs ridiculously bad, his fatass was falling all around the ring, losing his balance with the fat swaying. Failed title shot.

Toney turns down a IBF title shot with Wlad.

This all happened in the past year. This looks to me like boxing is bending over backwards for Toney, and he's showing it no repsect and has little respect for himself or his chance to win a title, unless it's against a lesser champion, and even then he fails.

Who else gets offered 4 title shots in one year? He refused the tough ones, took the easy ones, and failed in those. You go, boy!

Toney may get more fighting other champs/boxers. And the man can sell a fight with the press confrences and countdown specials no doubt. I wont lie,i have come to like the man but know that Wlad is huge task. So Toney is not only worth more then only 1.5mil but also knows that if he's gonna risk it all and put his health and career on the line (and his name) he will go out fighting and for no less then at least 3mil.

                1. giving toney his biggest payday after his most pathetic performance and a positive steroid test sets a very bad precedent for boxing.

                that being said.

                2. toney could use the factors youve listed above to negotiate more money for himself. im willing to bet the 1.5 million offer was meant to piss toney off a little bit. the thing is that if toney stood up and said "ill do it for 3 million" i bet they would give it to him. and then all he could do was say "im ****ed" thats why you wont hear a number from toney, he knows he doesent want to fight wlad for any amount. and if you do hear a figure from toneys mouth it will be ridiculously high, probably like 10 million.

for a heavyweight boxer that really is not that much however considering how shamefull toney has been latly he should of took the deal in order to help him get his carrer back on track but klitschko is way to skilled for toney his best bet is to wait for rahman and get in shape this time

If he asked for more...they would have said "Toney priced himself out"...

Hitman, Toney talk's so who cares if he said he'd whoop them. This is a business and he's 37 and a blown up MW you think him and his team don't know that?. The proposed fight was at MSG where Toney is the draw and the fight that could get WK the recognition in the US, Toney hasn't loss yet at HW wether you like him or not. Yes he was outta shape against Rahman he still landed the cleaner shot's yet was outworked hence the draw. You can't compare a for sure H of F to a journeyman that's wrong, and he made more then that in his last fight. So it makes know sense for a HEAVYWEIGHT in JT situation to take 1.5 million.
