I figure there are 2 possibilities. First is that HBO want to showcase Machado and see Corrales is the ideal belt holder for him to have a breakout performance against. Second is their remaining budget is so small that this kind of card is all they can afford for that date.

Boxrec says he is, no opponent named though and with a month to go to find one it's probably not going to be anyone special. There was brief suggestion he could face Lemieux which would make sense as a main event for a GBP NY card like this, but too late for that to be sorted now.

I don't this is a worthy a main event on HBO. I would have preferred to have seen this on the under card of Cotto's final fight.

I will say this so far Miguel Cotto has to like the new partnership with Golden Boy Promotions not just because of the money he will make on his final fight but mainly to help get his talent more exposure.

I am picking Machado for the upset.

Because the budget can't be carried over into next year. You have to spend it all or it's gone.

And here's the thing about allocated budgets. If you come in under budget they'll cut the budget next year because they see it as you not needing as much as they gave you the previous year
