However, people such as Jim Lampley made him out to be outrageously better than he is. There are people that actually think the verify mention of his name brought fear to other boxers. Now that their belief is being shattered, they're conveniently blaming it on his age. The fact is he was never as good as his fans and many in the boxing media made him out to be. He is good enough to be a great champion and beat most of the fighters in his division. My question is why elevate him to such an elite status, when it was easy to see that although he is really good, he is not on the level of some of the truly great boxers in history.
He was certainly a grear amateur, however by the time we saw him on the world scene against Proska he was already 30.I dont think we saw the best of him. I can see he's slowed alot, hand and foot even to the naked eye. Like you say, the TV hype is sometimes excessive, but I also think critique aimed at him is the most out of proportion I've ever seen for a fighter who doesn't seem particularly boastful himself. He is what he is. A solid all rounder, super tough, good heart, not the quickest or the slickest. Not quite as good as some of the fans think who have him knocking out Nunn in three rounds in fantasy fights but nowhere near as bad as some on this site make him out to be.

    • People have placed Golovkin at such a high standard that when he goes the distance he's automatically old. That's pretty funny when you think about it. How many other fighters even in their prime have gone the distance and have never received the criticism that Golovkin gets? Pacquiao, Maidana, Marquez, Mayweather, heck even Canelo have gone the distance and people have never bashed them like they do GGG. The guy steps up in class, goes the distance, is growing from it, and we call him old?

      • So he's old slipping deteriorating shot but you admit he beat a prime Canella. He was aged 2 years before the fight for the purpose of him deteriorating. Plus hundreds compared to like 40 amateur fights for Canella

So if it is minor does that mean that his competition was better than portrayed or that Brook, Jacobs and Canelo weren't much better than Golovkin's previous competition?

Do you think it is not plausible that maybe he has deterioted physically over the last several years?

Damn you're right....he has the same struggle as every other fighter in Boxing history. You "people" are so convinced that GGG is a flawless machine that you are amazed at his human traits. He's no machine, he's just vastly superior to other fighters between 147-200

Well I live in the UK and we don't have to listen to that idiot. The general consensus is the same. The fact is that age has to be some kind of factor in he's performances now because he's pretty old for this level, particularly with the style he has. There is a camp on this site that just can't see any good in him as a fighter. He is what he is. He's a good pressure fighter with a very good chin that can still compete with young stars. Why can't people just accept it?

Very true. GGG ducks nobody, loses to nobody and does not retire to avoid...himself.

If he walks through the streets and passes by a pack of African Americans, he's just another white boy. And you know it. Only difference is they would bow at his feet instead of attempting to victimize him.
