This is good news. Promoters should be encouraged to put up more of these competitive fights.
ggg vs canelo breaks 2 million ppv buys.

Peter Nelson said over a YEAR AGO that HBO would no longer publicly release PPV numbers, and that it was up to the promoters if they wanted to release them.It the actual tracking numbers were for anything near 2m PPV buys, you'd already have someone from HBO in the public sphere, talking up how well the numbers are tracking.
There has yet to be a single word as to how the event did from anyone at HBO, and the silence is deafening. The Saturday after the PPV is coming up tomorrow, so the inference is that if we don't hear anything by Monday, talk of the fight doing even 1m homes becomes suspect.
Maybe you missed that.Comment

I dont know where people are getting the ******ed idea that Canelo only made $5 million. That was just his fight night check. PPV earnings take MONTHS to get paid out, but if these buy numbers are valid he will probably make in excess of $50 million, based on his 80-20 revenue split with Golden Boy.Holy crap, that's huge, and great news for boxing. And Canelo made way more than $5 mil, guarantee you that.
And rematch, here we come. I actually think GGG is the one with more room for improvement in the rematch, while Canelo has to fight exactly the same way he fought, or else he gets rocked badly 2nd go round, and possibly finished. He doesn't have the gas tank for anything else.
What we dont know though is what the split was between GBP and K2. But its safe to assume that GGG will make a whole lot more than the $10-15 million "flat fee" deal that everyone here thought he was ****** to pass on.......Comment

Damn, didn't know it was that much more than $5 mil. Figured like $25-$30 at the end of the day. Good luck getting him to fight for anything less than $15 mil.I dont know where people are getting the ******ed idea that Canelo only made $5 million. That was just his fight night check. PPV earnings take MONTHS to get paid out, but if these buy numbers are valid he will probably make in excess of $50 million, based on his 80-20 revenue split with Golden Boy.

And I hope GGG gets at least $25 for this fight. Over 2 mil, he's for sure gonna be getting a pretty ass penny for this fight.Comment

Let's see where the final numbers land. Eveyone knows Canelo is the A side. But he isn't doing these kind of numbers alone as far as name recognition. No fighter ever does. You need two fighters with name brand to have a huge PPV success.stop embarrassing yourself GGG did 110-170k PPV buys (depending on who's source you believe) his last fight which was billed as the biggest fight of his career and that was his career high in PPV buys. Canelo already drew over 1m PPV this year alone without GGG. Even a showcase fight against a nobody who has never fought on US soil or on US tv drew DOUBLE the PPVs of GGG's career high. Canelo is the CLEAR 100% no doubt A side here.
Golovkin wasn't going to ever bring big numbers by himself but he clearly had a lot to do with the huge number (if it ultimately is as big as they say).Comment

I don't think I would go that far. I think what it means is that Canelo has roughly 300k fans who would buy his fights no matter whom he fights but more people buy his fights when he is in there with someone who is a threat.
But I guess this means they'd be ****ing ****** not to run this ***** back in a rematch. Even if the rematch does half this fights PPV buys it'll still be a huge financial windfall for all involved.
Hell, maybe next time they'd be willing to put on a co-main event fight worthy of the title.Comment

Clearly Canelo is the guy. Clearly Golovkin has something to do with a possible million more buys vs. Chavez (if all these numbers are correct). And by the way Chavez had something to do with the 1.2 MM buys in the their fight. He had name recognition.yes because of Canelo... are you ******ed! Canelo is a bigger draw today then he was BEFORE he beat Cotto do you not get that? If he fought Chavez before Cotto does it do 1m? I don't think so. Floyd sold MORE ppvs against Robert Guerrero then he did when he fought Hatton and the same he did against Marquez. Do you think Guerreo is a bigger draw then Juan Manuel Marquez and Ricky Hatton were? Or did Floyd just become a bigger draw over the years that past since when he fought Hatton and Marquez and that's why it did more PPVs? Canelo is bigger today then he was 2-3 years ago. GGG just did 110-170K his last fight which was billed the biggest fight of his career. Canelo did over 1m his last fight. It's clear who is driving the PPV buys and who isn't.
If anyone is telling you Golovkin is A side or even half the reason for the success they are crazy. Anyone who tells you this is all Canelo hasn't got an f'n clue or more likely just an typical Golovkin hater.Comment
