Nothing really happened so if GGG had stepped up the punch output he could have taken those rounds but as it is the only punches of any significance landed during those rounds were by Canelo. Just moving forward isn't enough.
And a lot of ppl aren't giving Canelo credit for making GGG miss almost 500 punches. It's like they don't score defense or good solid body shots.

We can all agree Canelo won the 1st few rounds and the last few. While GGG took all the middle rounds.
No we can't agree. Golovkin won the first round for sure..

GGG is the new P4P king and side A following Ward's retirement. Hey, they don’t *** around in Kazakhstan.
They also miss almost 500 punches!!! I mean HOLY SHT!!! I mean did GGG turn into Helen Keller overnight??? She would have at least an excuse for missing that many times...

I hope the rematch gets made for May 2018 but Golden Boy will probably want to avoid another close call so they'll probably milk it till September 2018 if not 2019. That sucks considering the fact that it's Golovkin who's the older fighter. I'd like to see GGG unify once and for all against Saunders this December but Golden Boy doesn't want that so GGG is really stuck in a bind. Unless Canelo and GB commit and sign off on the contract if I were team GGG I'd stay busy. No need to wait around if they're not serious about an immediate rematch. It'll be Canelo's loss if they wait to fight Golovkin past May 2018. He'll be criticized for making GGG wait till he aged even more.

Oh ok. Well they should be replaying the fight this Saturday on HBO so I'll be able to watch the whole thing on my big screen.

I get it but at the same time its hard to win defensively. You don't score points by making your opponent miss you just keep them from scoring. And if neither side really lands much of note its hard to not score it for the guy whose moving forward because he is the one pressing the action and making the other fighter react to what he's doing.

                  Great update by TL

I know GGG won't get faster etc but I hope Canelo will at least fight in May. If he waits longer then all it says is you whupped me and I don't want you til you are OLD !!!

Don't put words in my mouth. I didn't say GGG beat him up. He never hurt him as he missed a ton of punches, while losing a lot of snap and weight on his punches in the process.

All I am saying that he was the more active and busier of the two; Given the tremendous amount of pressure, aggression and work rate he applied throughout the night. Which in my opinion was enough to secure him the victory.

On the other hand, I felt that Canelo beat GGG up pretty badly by landing the best punches of the night; With precise counters, accuracy, timing and speed but just didn't land enough of them. I thought he landed the overall heavier, cleaner and flashier punches of the two; Albeit while landing them in spurts and by picking and choosing his spots very deliberately and carefully.
