Sad to think that Kovalev thinks he had something to do with Wards retirement, smh. I guess he sees this as some kind of moral victory for him since he couldn't do it in the ring himself. I have an addiction, don't make light of it! It's hard for me to quit watching boxing, but when boxing regularly does stuff that is worthy of being done with boxing, I like to at least express those sentiments, hoping boxing will change.

In other words, I am saying, "I may be too addicted to quit watching this corrupt sport, but let me say for the record that it is corrupt, and that it deserves to lose fans, and lose revenue, so long as it is corrupt, so I will say I am quitting watching, and will consider quitting watching, hoping that others follow suit, and that those who are not as addicted to it as I am follow my lead and quit watching for good, even if I don't actually follow through on it I hope they will, so that boxing gets the message and stops ruining itself."

So that's how I feel about it. I'm not done with boxing, but very disappointed. Will I spend way less time watching previews of GGG's next fights, because I feel like his prime was ruined and that his career has been a huge tease and ultimately a disappointment? Yes. So there is definitely going to be less revenue from me, and other fans, going to certain boxers, as a consequence of how their careers have disappointed me as a fan, either because of choices their promoters have made, or what the boxing establishment has done to them. it's not always their fault, but the result is the same, that I feel screwed over as a fan, and so I react the only way I can. In GGG's case this isn't even to get back at boxing or boycott boxing, it's just the way I naturally feel. I am naturally less interested in GGG's career now that he is not the same boxer anymore, and his career prospects are no longer as exciting to me. What was exciting to me about him was that he was such a quick, creative, high volume, fundamentally sound power puncher that I knew he was one of those very rare offensive boxers who would actually be able to disarm and overpower even the most elite of defensive boxers, which is very rare. Usually the elite defensive boxer wins no matter what. So that is what really excited me about GGG, and I couldn't wait to see it.

Now, I no longer feel that way. I no longer think he could. He's gone from a boxer I wouldn't have even worried about losing a fight at 168 to someone I'm not even confident picking to win at 160 anymore. Three years ago I would have laughed at Saunders chances vs him, for example. Guaranteed knockout. Now, I would be nervous Saunders would at least make it close, and I would expect it to go 12 instead of end in a KO. Not that what GGG's done isn't impressive, because in a sense, yes it's impressive that even past his best, he's shown he's skilled enough to outbox good defensive boxers like Canelo even when his speed and power punchers are no longer what they were. However, that doesn't make it exciting. More than anything GGG was exciting because he was the rare power puncher who could actually land his power against anyone, and land it consistently, and land it throughout the fight without getting tired. Now he barely lands power shots at all, so it's just not as exciting. And when he does, they are so slow, and have such low velocity behind them, that they don't even look that powerful like they used to be. They look heavy now, yes, but not powerful like they used to be, because power is mass and velocity, but all he has now is the mass, not the velocity.

So in other words, in some ways I am not quitting boxing, but limiting my consumption of it, and what I'm saying is I encourage others to do the same or quit it entirely until it reforms itself and the best starting fighting the best on even playing fields in their primes. I am only going halfway, which is something, but I encourage others to go even further, in order to motivate boxing to reform itself.
