Comments Thread For: Hopkins: Canelo Handled 'Grim Reaper,' Rematch Will Be Easier

LAS VEGAS Bernard Hopkins is impressed with how Canelo Alvarez dealt with a powerful opponent plenty of fans and media expected to knock him out. The former undisputed middleweight and light heavyweight champion is convinced Alvarez did enough to beat Gennady Golovkin in their 12-round middleweight title fight Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena. Only one judge heavily criticized Adalaide Byrd thought Alvarez won, and she erroneously scored it 118-110 for the Mexican superstar.

... "But the fight itself wasn’t a failure."

... usually, exhibition fights aren't failures...

The controversy can't be forgotten, Bernard.

In the future fans will just refuse to buy the big events if they can't trust that the right decision will be rendered.

It is damaging to our sport.

"Rematch will be easier." - Sure it will, because GGG will be 40 when Canelo finally accepts it.

The sport is to hit and not get it... GGG hit Canelo way more, and actually used a jab. Canelo has no jab, backpedaled all night and can't handle a constant jab in his face - it forces him to fight in spurts.

GGG won 9-3 or 8-4 at the worst - anyone who says otherwise has been media or social media brainwashed. Just watch the damn fight - clear as day.

Fk the Boxing Community for trying to make this fight seem closer than it was.

It's a shame when a hard worker like GGG gets robbed, I total agree with Teddy Atlas, boxing is corrupt, these judges were terrible, Oscar paid off the judges, Canelo won 3 rounds, feel bad for GGG and his team, that's what happens with the people in charge

I get the impression Hopkins is a very intelligent guy, it's just a shame he can't get out of his own way. It's like he can't ever get that chip off his shoulder so always has something to say, and it's usually wrong.

I remember thinking from about round 4 onwards that it was starting to look like the Kell Brook fight. Canelo was back-pedalling and hanging off the ropes, watching his face get bent round 90 degrees every so often.

Agree Canelo won 3-4 rounds tops.

Only thing, I think GGG should have gone in for the kill in those late/middle rounds when it seemed Canelo was spent. GGG seemed to let him off the hook a few times when he had him pinned.
