Anyone here dismiss CompuBox numbers all together?

(This is a thread about CompuBox in general, not about the numbers for the Canelo-GGG fight)

"The system calls for two operators. Each operator watches one of the two fighters and has access to four keys, corresponding to jab connect, jab miss, power punch connect, and power punch miss. The operators key in the different punches as they happen, collecting punch counts and hit percentages along the way."

    1. There is no way in hell a human can accurately monitor all the punches in a sport that is so fast paced. Human error exists and there is no way those numbers can be 100% accurate

    2. CompuBox doesn't tell us how effective the punches landed were. You have to remember not all punches are created equal.

I don't think compubox even claims they are 100% accurate so I got no clue why so many compubox haters love to act like they are suggesting that or that cuz they aren't 100% accurate that they don't matter at all. Its just more data thats up for discussion & more often then not, I've personally found, tell the story of the fight. But yea sometimes they don't tell the story of the fight & people love to take extremes so everything has to be 100% right or its 100% wrong.

And yea you can't tell how damaging punches are, but more often then not power punches are "worth more judge points" it seems based on paying attention to punch stat numbers for as long as I have. Probably ~95%+ of the time you'll find that the guy who won 7 rounds by a wide number (4 or more) power punches will win the fight.

If I was a Canelo fan, I'd try to dismiss those numbers too.

The numbers that need to be dismissed are 118-110

Compubox is a useful tool but nothing more. Of course it isn't completely accurate and of course it doesn't tell the story of how damaging the punches are, but in most cases it can help give an idea of - or support to - the narrative of a fight.

They were so enamored of compubox when its their fighter's favor. But then when it is others we should be "Dismissing it"

So, what do you want? Slow motion statistics? Oh wait, it favors to the attacking fighter. Nah.

I always take compubox into account. A lot of the times it's nice to have a rough estimate to go by but that doesn't mean it'll overhaul the way I saw the fight with my own eyes.

We need to have an unbiased system where we show 30 second clips at a time which are either in black and white or have the sound reversed. This stimulates the brain and allows for proper judging.

Exactly. It's the best system we have. To dismiss the compubox scorers, we have to subsequently dismiss the judges scores, as well as our own visual observations
