That fight was very similar to this one except they picked Leonard(the then cash cow)to win for the same reasons as canelo if he was picked to have won, which is Defense, accuracy, ring generalship,& effective aggression. While his opponent was much more wasteful,(hagler was less wasteful than ggg was though). And the equivalent in this fight was canelo as he fought a defensive but effective fight in a lil over half the fight which I happen to think he wins 7 rds,but same don't have a problem with a draw or even ggg by a point.
I think anyone who had either by more than 7-5 is being unfair & I'm basing it off both being in arena & rewatching it afterwards on tv.Last edited by kushking; 09-19-2017, 03:33 PM.Comment

I just went back over Leonard vs Hagler scorecards & except for the 114-114 card canelo vs ggg had, that fight had the same scores as canelo vs ggg 118-110 113-115 & 115-113 which is why Leonard won. But either way in that fight 1 judge gave Hagler only 2 rds. History repeats itself.Comment

me neither
and you're right, I have always preferred skilled boxers over punchers
I respect skills more than power, especially when that power was largely ineffective over the course of 12 rounds because of the skills
no big deal
Golovkin was very lucky imo, leaving it in the judges hands with a skilled opponent like CaneloComment

I give GGG props for walking out lookin like that without shades. I wouldn't have the balls to do it.Comment

I'll admit, as soon as the final bell rung, I thought,"there went his titles, they're giving it to Canelo"...but well, it is what it is...Comment

Originally posted by TonyGeI was thinking about the fight and I recalled something Sanchez said a long time ago. He said that his style of boxing he teaches forces the other fighter to adjust to them. His fighters don't adjust to the opponent. I thought what the hell. That's simply wrong. Sometimes the fight doesn't go as planned. Its a fluid and changing script. If you don't practise adjusting it will catch up to you. Another thing that's bothered me is G is always shown hitting the mitts with power. Ok do he's good at it we get it. How about learning to fight on the inside like Duran. Tying up the opponents arms and creating punching opportunities. He's physically strong and has a good uppercut. If he has superior strength then use it, make it work for you. What the hell was this secret plan that Able came up with. Neglict the body and throw only to the head? Anyway I thought G won but a rematch may be different. Loeffler not negotiating a rematch clause? I think Able and Golovkin took Canelo lightly. The guy has stamina issues so they go to the head and neglict the body attack. Able should of advised Golovkin to attack the body after he saw that Canelo had a good chin. In fact Golovkin should have done it on his own. I'm a fan but there were mistakes made in this fight. How can anyone in their right mind put the thought of a trilogy in his fighter's head when they aren't assured of a rematch. There are enought more important things to think of in prepping for the fight. Able, Loeffler is the guy paid to talk you get paid to train your fighter so shut up already...
they had no choice
same as Mayweather/Pacquiao
but, GOOD post !!
this is how the first Kovalev/Ward fight should have ended, so that Kova could keep his titlesComment

My bad. I edited some grammer in the original post but inadvertantly deleted it. Anyway those were issues that bothered me for a long time but didn't voice them.Comment
