Comments Thread For: Canelo Alvarez-Gennady Golovkin: Pre-Fight Report Card

Saul Alvarez is making a habit of taking the fights larges masses of the public insist he won't. Floyd Mayweather was a gimme' in terms of taking on quality opposition. One only gets so much credit for it. Anyone who had the chance to fight the biggest money attraction in the history of boxing would do it. He also fought Austin Trout and Erislandy Lara though, when there was no such incentive and when most assumed he'd be steered on a safer course.

In terms of power, does anybody not believe Golovkin would have KO'd the "walking dead" Chavez Jr?

Triangle theories don't work out but yeah Golovkin would've killed Chavez.

where I slightly disagree with Cliff is.....

"Alvarez will be quicker, especially early, and may build a lead"

well, I think he is quicker AND better, and will do more than just edge a few early rounds

I believe that Alvarez is not only quicker, he is also better in a number of area's..... defence being one of them, combination punching being another

Golovkin is a notorious slow starter, and not difficult to time..... I think they will target him early

I think that Canelo could touch Golovkin up early, and even hurt him..... I don't think he will have any problem gaining Gennady's respect..... so not sure if the tide will turn so sharply in the middle of the fight like Cliff suggests

Alvarez will tire/slow, and Golovkin will come on..... but I think that phase could be more of a tense stand-off with Golovkin being a little hesitant like he was with Jacobs and even Brook in spots..... and Golovkin can get a little sloppy when he tires, which will give Canelo plenty of opportunities

not sure if this will be the war that people think

                * the better/smarter guy will win, IF he sticks to his gameplan
                * and the guy with the best corner will have a big advantage
                * boxing is a young mans game

those factors all favor the fat red kid

best of luck to both guys, can't wait

The undercard is garbage from top to bottom. There's plenty time to cram this in.
