To be fair, I think the reason why the UK casuals are tuning in for the fight is because both of them had stopped british household names in Khan and Brook.

Well it matters to HBO. Considering they've been slashing its boxing budget and putting every marquee matchup on PPV I hope the fight does well.

There is more buzz then the Chavez fight. You can't turn on ESPN without hearing about it. They drawing huge crowds in Vegas just for the weigh in, drew huge crowds in LA for the public workouts. You can't even buy tickets at any of the movie theaters by my way, my boy just hit me up cause he coming to my PPV house party because he can't find 2 tickets at the movie theaters they all sold out or only have a couple single seats. Bars that don't show boxing are having the PPV. If comparing it to Mayweather/Mcgregor then of course but if you compare the buzz to other huge boxing ppvs other UFC PPVs and hell the Chavez PPV which did over 1m PPV then promotion has been great. They sold out the t-mobile in a couple days and have a reported 30M live gate off the sellout. Remember other then may/pac and may/mcgregor the next all time highest gate in Nevada history is 20M. So this fight is already 3rd highest in history.

Most people who know me know I'm a boxing fan, and I've been asked about this fight endlessly, basically as much as I was asked about Mayweather vs. McGregor.

ESPN has been all over the hype machine for this, which brings 1000 times more visability than an HBO 24/7 (those are so played out IMO).

Oscar's "if you want to see a real fight, forget about May/Mac and tune in for Canelo/GGG" message has resonated. People were saying it (I'm talking about in the media) before the spectacle fight and have been saying it all week.

Anyone who might possibly care is aware of this fight. It's competing with college football but no huge games on TV tonight, and the usual NFL talk on sports TV shows obviously takes away the spotlight a bit because the networks know NFL football is the biggest/most popular sport in the USA, but the idea of promotion is quite simply to make people aware and hopefully intrigued enough to buy it. And they've basically done that as well as they could IMO.

May-Mac was a chitty fight that sold purely based on the trash talk, press conferences, all access... it wasnt a real sporting event IMO

Canelo-GGG is a huge fight for every boxing fan. Even casuals. No need for that much hype. These fighters are exciting INSIDE the ring bot out of it. Too much hype would be boring IMO

You can't go on promoting a fight when a freak show is being hyped to the max. Circus was over and people were still discussing the fight for one whole month.
