Comments Thread For: Monroe Brings 'No-Quit' Mentality For Saunders Title Challenge

By Thomas Gerbasi - Willie Monroe Jr. is in that "other" middleweight title fight this weekend, far away from Las Vegas, where Gennady Golovkin and "Canelo" Alvarez will have the boxing world watching intently. Instead, Monroe will be in London's Copper Box Arena, the foreign invader taking on the local hero when he challenges Billy Joe Saunders for the WBO 160-pound crown. And he's not just okay with that, but he's used to it, because boxers from Rochester, New York don't get too many home games...

I'm going to assume Saunders has the potential to be better than what I've seen of him, but I think Willie can beat him if the judging/reffing is fair. It could be awkward, but it's actually a very interesting fight...I'm just finding it hard to be very interested.

I hope Willie destroys Blow job Saunders. But if he believes 'God' has bought him all this way for good reason, and what happens is what happens to countless fringe contenders - they lose and slide into obscurity, only briefly mentioned here and there by posterity, will Monroe question his belief in god?
Or will he just revise and backwards rationalise what's happened to him as positive divine providence no matter what happens?
Always gives me a chuckle when these guys think (or don't think critically) events happen for providential reasons, then when they don't work out, they just adjust their trajectory - instead of thinking or maybe just getting angry that god has let them down- or maybe he wasn't there at all.

Monroe must overcome lack of size and no punch to win and I don't think he can do it may be a late round stoppage for the champ... is no-quit attitude is going to result in a beating...

Anyone know how much cash Boone gets for his fights? He's a unique guy in that he's not a star, but he's a litmus test promoters and trainers like to send their prospects against. I could see him making $25K to $75K per fight.
