Gennady Golovkin ran into a brown bear during a training camp in Big Bear in California and the Kazakh fighter showed no fear, his trainer Abel Sanchez has revealed.
Golovkin also opened up on his famed power and chin, as Kenny Bayless was announced by the Nevada State Athletic Commission as the referee for Golovkin's middleweight fight with Mexican star Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez on Saturday night.
No wonder GGG is feared, as he exudes an icy calm. In one recent documentary, Sanchez revealed that training at altitude in Big Bear, California, is not without threats from the local wildlife.
On one of Golovkin’s training runs, a brown bear came barrelling out of the trees and ran in front of Sanchez’s car. But like all sensible creatures the bear displayed no wish to rumble with Golovkin.
Creation of enigma and mythology, one suspects. But with GGG, that kind of tale fits. It feels right. A feature of Golovkin’s style is his ability to take big shots in order to land his even bigger ones.
