How come canelo is seen to have the 'skill' advantage?

Find it bizarre how the fight narrative is being played out, canelo the one with the skills, GGG going to have to rely on his power. Based on what exactly?

As far as i was aware golovkin was world amateur champ and olympic silver medalist, which suggests, surprisingly, that he may possess some solid boxing fundamentals.

Golovkin had some trouble with jacobs, sure. He lost a few rounds. It was a close, competitive fight. Arguably the only competitive fight hes had in his whole career.

But roll the clock back and i dont think canelo looked too skillfull when he fought lara. So why doesnt that fight seem to get mentioned as much? At a lower weight in fact. The average media score for that was 114-114.

So whys that been forgotten about?

And aside from that, he didnt demonstrate too much boxing IQ against mayweather and the trout fight was a very close fight too. Why have they been forgotten about?

Trout outlanded him by 154 punches to 124. Al bernstein had it a draw.

But yeah, golovkin had some problems against jacobs so thats all forgotten about, canelos the boxer in the match up! Hes arguably been outboxed 3 times but hes the one with the skills in this one.

I mean youve got to factor in standard of opposition, canelo looked great against chavez and liam smith but christ almighty, golovkin could look like pernell whittaker against them two. Just watch his sparring video against chavez.

Just strange how in the space of the year beating some appalling opposition has somehow morphed the previously clear underdog canelo into canelo v2.0, the skillful elusive master boxer canelo. Hes still the same guy, if he'd have fought khan, shot cotto, chavez and liam smith PRE-mayweather, he'd have got the job done.

To be honest i didnt think he looked too sharp in them early rounds against khan, but again the brook fight gets mentioned over and over again but the khan canelo fight doesnt.

Canelo is a solid fighter, maybe i will eat my words (it wont be the first time) but i dont know how this has warped into some size v skill match up. He'll land some good combos but he will get systematically broken down and outboxed by an intelligent pressure fighter who will use his power as an asset alongside a smart calculated gameplan.

First of all Amateur accomplishment do not mean **** as we saw with Frankie Gavin, Queen Khan, and countless others.

Second Canelo has fought world class opposition in the Pros again and again, he outboxed Miguel Cotto and fought Mayweather at just 23 years old and Mosley at 21. His skills are proven at the world stage.

G-love spot on the other hand has been feasting on absolute trash cans like Geale, Macklin, Lemieux, Rubio, etc. sure he knocked them out, but will his skills translate to the elite world stage in the pros?

Finally, Canelo has way better defense/upper body slickness. Those who know boxing know that Defence is THE most important thing a fighter could have.

G-love spot gets hit clean in fights and makes mistakes. He has no slickness to his game. He fights like an awkward robot.

Canelo is going to school G-spot.

Canelo's current level is a bit of a mystery. Some people say he's gotten better but in actuality his opponents have just gotten worse. Kirkland, Khan, Liam Smith and Chavez Jr. When I saw Smith, I couldn't believe how bad he was and slow for a guy his age and size. And then, when you didn't think it could get any worse, Chavez just stands there ready to get hit. His only half decent opponent in years was over the hill Cotto which I had Canelo winning by 1 round and his size advantage helped a lot. Unlike others, I don't buy the he's improved dramatically argument until he shows it against GGG.

1st what about Lomachenko and his amateur record?

2nd yea Canelo fought Mayweather and got schooled. You can argue he got experience, but just like your comment about the amateurs, that doesn't mean crap until he proves it and he hasn't proved much so far. And I love how you say he outboxed a damn near retired Cotto, which he barely beat which is sad in itself, and a way past his prime Mosely like it's some damn accomplishment. I don't see anyone giving avanysean, or whatever his name is, all this credit or the Russian guy that beat Roy Jones. I wonder if i ko'ed sugar ray Robison today, would they suddenly put me on the p4p list for beating a legend? Apparently you would give me all the credit in the world for it.

3rd Jacobs is a better win than anyone on Canelo's resume. Are really submitting that these so called cans of GGG's are any worse than most of Canelo's opponents? Is Lara, with two losses and who has never beaten anyone of note, really that much better than Jacobs? Is Trout really that much better than Murray who was robbed against lineal Martinez? Is an almost retired Cotto any better of a win than Lemeuix? A no just because Canelo went life and death with him doesn't mean he still has it, it just means Canelo struggled with someone he shouldn't have. Charlo or Andrade would have dispatched him quickly and Lara would have easily won a boring 12 round fight. Beyond that, the rest of Canelo's opponents are major cans too, more than GGG's.

Last Canelo has decent defense but hardly enough to be saying he can win because of it, it's a fairly ridiculous argument to even make for this fight. Similarly I can say GGG has a way better jab than Canelo and is much better at cutting off the ring, and then say actually landing shots is the most important key to victory. But that doesn't necessarily mean GGG will win because of it.

And in an effort toward anti-parellism, for a moment I will also engage in childish name calling and say GGG ko's cvntnelo

Sure he hasn't skills and can't box shyt.

            Dumb people.

Btw Canelo is a good boxer with skills, and Golovkin at 35 is still as much as good at least.

Is anyone apart from some biased posters really saying he has the advantage in skill?

GGG is clearly the better offensive fighter with better control of range due to a better and longer jab BUT Canelo is the better counter puncher.

Both guys are very skilled and its difficult to pick them apart on that basis alone.
