  • Comments Thread For: Jermell Charlo: How the F*** Did Lubin Get a Shot at My Title?

NEW YORK Jermell Charlo cannot figure out why he is obligated to defend his title against Erickson Lubin. The unbeaten 154-pound champion from Houston made a mandatory defense of his WBC super welterweight title when he knocked out Charles Hatley viciously in his last fight. And as far as Charlo can tell, the 21-year-old Lubin doesn't deserve a title shot based on what he has accomplished during the first 3 years of his pro career.

He's my guy, but these remarks definitely make him sound worried. You didn't hear any of this when he was fighting Hatley.

He better bring it, or Lubin will school him.

Can't get over how big Lubin looks. Not a good big, an out of shape big. Charlo isn't exactly a small Junior middleweight and Lubin has a lot of mass over him. Charlo looks ready to fight today. Hope Lubin has a good camp.

I like how both brothers have a chip on their shoulders and they take it out on whoever's in the ring with them.

I don't like how Jermell is talking about being a businessman and calling the shots. His best win is probably Vanes Martirosyan.

I doubt, he's probably wondering why he has 2 mandos and guys like Adonis and Wilder have yet to face any.
And also like he said, he didn't get a title shot til he was 26.

if you look at it, charlo doesn't sound scared, he sounds pissed off. no way in hell that charlo is scared. the charlo brothers thrive on not feeling respected enough, and that seems to give them the motivation to train and fight harder. to me, lubin is a great fighter especially to be his age, he's right there with anyone in his weight class, and his upside is great since he's so young, and getting better and stronger all the time. the thing is, the charlos are all fast twitch muscle, kinda like how terry Norris used to be. they have that speed and explosiveness, and I feel that's what spells doom for most ppl they fight. on this fight, however, I have no prediction, because lubin also brings a lot, he's young and he wanted this fight, so he has a lot of confidence. not McGregor type bs artist confidence, but real belief in skills and hunger. so I can't count him out. I think you have to lean towards charlo, but it's a great fight either way
