Comments Thread For: David Haye Still Plans December Return, Eyes Joshua in 2018

Former world boxing champion David Haye is still gunning for a world title showdown in 2018 with the World Boxing Association (WBA), the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and the International Boxing Organization (IBO) beltholder, Anthony Joshua (19-0, 19 KOs). Joshua is scheduled to return in Cardiff on October 28, when he makes a mandatory defense of his title against Kubrat Pulev of Bulgaria. But Joshua is also under the WBA's mandatory order to then fight Luis Ortiz.

If there weren't any titles on the line, I'd still like to see this fight. But Joshua has much bigger things to achieve, even if there's only one other big name for him to make money with (Wilder).

Haye should just go back to fighting scrubs on the 'Dave' channel and trying to keep his legs from giving out, the mouthy fookah.

A Joshua fight isn't even on the radar anymore. He's going to have to beat someone relevant for anyone to even care about that fight at this point. If he does that fight would be massive.

Problem is that Joshua no longer needs someone like Haye to fill a stadium and sell hundreds of thousands of PPVs. Haye's name carries a price tag that Joshua and Matchroom have no need to pay. Then there's the issue of his credibility. He desperately needs to KO Bellew to re-establish himself and he's priced himself out.

If Joshua and Wilder win their next fights and then face each other (big if) I could see Haye getting a shot vs the Parker/Fury winner. They'd figure he was past it but still marketable, and Haye would know it'd be his best chance at getting a belt he could milk with an easy defense or two before cashing out in a unification.

Haye without a title is a backward step for AJ at this point, AJ already has a 3 fight plan, pulev, ortiz and Wilder. So sorry Haye you gonna have to go out there and earn that pay day this time around

People saying that Haye needs a win to be "credible" enough to sell a PPV are completely missing the point imo.

If nothing else Joshua - Haye would be the UK version of May - Mac, literally there is no way it doesn't break every financial record out there.

Haye is such a big draw that he sold at least 600,000 PPVs against a blown up cruiserweight - who's not a household name - and after two of the worst comeback fights I've ever seen. The guy has not really had a competitive fight in 5 years and still does that many buys... what does that tell you?

People who doubt Haye's pulling power are: a) too obsessed with what "hardcores" think; b) blinded by hatred of Haye; and/ or c) literally have never talked to a non - hardcore about boxing.
