GGG is the favorite but SR has a good batting average on predicting winners better than Roach thats for sure

The difference in weight classes is generally 5 to 7 pounds, meaning the average difference is 6 pounds. Well, from 152 to 155 where Canelo's best performances have generally come is 3 pounds, which is half a weight class. So those pounds absolutely matter.

One potentially overlooked variable going into GGG-Canelo that I don't hear anyone talking about is the fact that Canelo-Chavez Jr was not actually at 160, it was at 164.5, another half weight class difference above 160 this time, and actually closer to super middleweight than 160. So if you're comparing how Canelo looked vs Chavez to how GGG looked vs Jacobs, not only is Jacobs better than Chavez, but those fights happened in different weight classes. Canelo looked devastating but I wonder if you gave GGG 4.5 more pounds to play with, if he wouldn't look even more devastating than normal?

Now maybe Canelo didn't bulk up any extra, and he won't have any more trouble making 160 than he did making 164.5, so it's going to be the exact same Canelo regardless... It's possible, but I kind of doubt it. At this point in his career Canelo probably walks around at 180 or 185 pounds of muscle, so you don't think he has an easier time draining to 164.5 compared to 160? On the other hand, he did make 154 only this year... The point is though, whether he can make certain weights or not, I bet it affects your peak performance the more you have to drop. Canelo at 154 was not as devastating as Canelo at 164.5, and although the difference won't be as pronounced, it's only logical to think Canelo at 160 won't be quite as devastating as Canelo at 164.5.

I mean just look at David Benavidez at 168, Badou Jack before he moved up, Callum Smith, Andre Ward when he was at 168, and look how much bigger and more powerful those guys are than the guys at 160, even though it's only 8 pounds difference. So 4.5 pounds might not be that much of a difference, but it's not nothing either.

My only concern for GGG-Canelo is GGG's age. That's it. And as a result, Canelo's speed advantage, but if GGG is still in his prime, he had underrated speed. Not sure he still does though, he's looked slow his last two fights.

Anyway, I'm concerned about GGG's age, and his speed as a result, and also his stamina as a result of age. Like Pacquiao, prime GGG could throw 1000 punches in a fight. He was on pace against Stevens. He never took rounds off. He could keep chasing you and throwing hard shots all round every round as long as the fight went, which he showed against Martin Murray. However, against Jacobs and possibly even Brook, GGG took a lot of break. Sanchez even told GGG he was taking rounds off on him, and he didn't like to see that. Well, that's what age and fatigue will do, whether Abel likes seeing it or not.

Canelo needs to take breaks too, of course, but the point is stamina was supposed to be possibly GGG's biggest advantage, possibly even more than power. Stamina is what would make up for any speed disadvantage, and make the fight a blowout sooner than later. To beat a faster boxer who can also punch, you need to be able to overwhelm them with volume. Prime GGG was the best in the entire sport at this (along with Santa Cruz but he's at a low weight class and doesn't have the power necessary to overwhelm top opposition the way GGG does). If GGG no longer has that stamina, and the stamina category is now equal, instead of a gigantic advantage for GGG, then GGG has big problems.

Here's how I saw the matchup during their primes

        Size: Advantage GGG
        Reach: GGG
        Power: Huge advantage GGG
        Speed: Slight advantage Canelo
        Stamina: Huge advantage GGG

Here's how I see the matchup now:

        Size: equal

Reach: Canelo. Boxrec used to have GGG with the longer reach, but I think they changed it. So Abel's training methods are so outdated, he is even shrinking GGG's reach, possibly from too much altitude training (thinner air means less gravity, which could put less resistance on the muscle and the bones, causing both to weaken or shorten or who knows. All I know is they changed it).

Power: Significant advantage GGG, but maybe not quite what it used to be

        Speed: Huge advantage Canelo

        Stamina: ?? Equal?

So it's gone from GGG having advantages in 4 of 5 categories, including two huge advantage categories, and no huge advantages for Canelo, to possibly only one advantage for GGG out of 4, no huge advantages anymore, and one huge advantage for Canelo.

From having 80% advantages to 20%... that's how much difference two years of ducking can make. If Canelo steals this one against an old GGG, I will never buy a Canelo PPV ever again. I wouldn't root against him, it's a waste of time, and I (used to) like him anyway. Even with the ducking, he's no heel.

But, I hope I'm wrong, and that we see both fighters at their best. If GGG can beat Canelo at Canelo's best weight, despite a nine year age disadvantage, as well as a big drug testing disadvantage (GGG has to do VADA year round, Canelo only does it during training camps I think), it will say a lot about his greatness as a fighter. I just wish his first big legacy challenge had come in his prime against an elite opponent perhaps at 168 or 175, but otherwise on an even playing field, rather than against age and a potentially uneven playing field, as well as an opponent who has possibly developed into an elite boxer.
You sound like a straight b itch when you say... " if Canelo steals this one I'll never buy his fight again"
Sounds like a b itch saying "If you cheat on me one more time I'll never forgive you again" LOL

That's why I don't think Canelo wins. Imo I can't see how he outjabs GGG. And since Golovkin won't stand off in respect, I can't see how it can be real easy.

The trash fans will day that. We'll never know how that fight would've turned out because it would've took place at 154 so it's a different Gennady and at what age for Floyd?

I'd take Floyd UD though against a sluggish Gennady who had several good moments

This guy is one of the idiots that says Ward "cheated" CRYvalev even though Crybaby quit. Quit on his feet.

He also thinks Pac beat Floyd so...no point in entertaining him. Let him and Spoon circle jerk each other.

And they have excuses or simply vanish after the big fights happen.

This is a good fight and Canelo will have to find a way to deal with Gennady jab and I think the counter right we saw against Chavez is his best shot. I also expect to see a lot of "turning" after combos to evade incoming punches...at least early on while Gennady has power on his punches
