Cuba Wins World Championships With FIVE Golds

Cuba came in first place in the 2017 AIBA World Boxing Championships, with five gold medals and two silver. Pretty impressive, when you consider there were only ten weight divisions.

This year's edition was held in Hamburg, Germany, from August 25 to September 2. Uzbekistan came in second place with six total medals (1 gold, 3 silver, 2 bronze), and Kazakhstan came in third with six medals as well (1 gold, 2 silver, 3 bronze). The United States came in seventh, with 1 silver and 2 bronze.

    Well done, Cubanos.

Lazaro Alvarez deserved the decision over Oumiha too. And if Larduet was competing he would have had a great chance of winning gold at super heavy. Plus Robeisy was absent. Cuba is such a strong team

Edit: Oh and Arlen got robbed in the quarter-finals. Although he still didn't look great and probably wouldn't have beaten Khyzhniak, who has been a man on a mission this year

Thanks for the details. I missed it all. Specifically, I wondered what happened to Robeisy. Seems he's had problems with the Cuban authorities the last couple of years. I'm afraid that kid might rot on the vine, unless he gets the hell off the island.

Arlen was hugg to death by Amankul which make the fight very hard to score. Khyzhniak style is not like that would have been a great fight to see

Yeah I still think Arlen is the best middleweight, but he has just lost form since Rio. He got thoroughly beaten by Madrimov and had two close fights with Vivas in the WSB, and just generally seems to be lacking timing. Khyzhniak at the moment is just undeniable. Gold in the u22 Euros, gold in the senior Euros and now gold in the Worlds. Not the most skilled guy ever but just a beast

Maybe. Some might be boring, others exciting. But one thing is certain, the pool is top-quality. If all those guys get the opportunity to turn pro, you better believe that a few will become professional world champions.
