1. Ali.
Ali before the 3 year hiatus is the most gifted heavyweigt I've ever seen in a heavyweight and nearly unbeatable(Liston, Patterson) no rope a dope just lightning hands and feet.
2. Mayweather
3. Duran
No mas! Still better than Leonard IMO
4. Whitaker
5. Ray Robinson
6. Julio Ceasar Chavez
7. Pacquiao
8. Larry Holmes
9. Hopkins
10. JMMOriginally posted by TMTForever99 View Postduran isn't even Top ten maybe top 25

Leonard's endurance was otherworldly. All of these old schools guys were. They swung haymakers like they were jabs. They weren't technically brilliant fighters. Duran was probably the best hybrid IMO. He actually has technique, offense that didn't completely rely on his athletics-- yet he was athletic, set traps, intelligent defense, and even blocked shots. Which almost nobody bothered too do back then.
With all the advancements in training, science, and nutrition, boxing is the only sport where people believe the past athletes would completely outclass the present. Yet they're just repeating **** their dad said, or they read somewhere.
If ATG means toughman contest of who can stand in front of you and swing haymakers for 15 rounds for 200 fights then- I concede-- the past fighters were the greatest. But if this is an actual sport - then no.Originally posted by whoelsebutjames View PostYou do recognize this is all hear say tho and you've never seen him actually fight.
Hears some of the footage we have of your ATG OR GOAT

Ezzard Charles- had a run from middleweight thru heavyweight and fought and beat pretty much everyone. Very versatile fighter in the skills department. Think james Toney, if Toney could stay in shape
Walker- I don't think is a top 10 ATG.. an ATG just not top ten. I think he is a tier down, on the same level as hagler, monzon, etc

Old school fighter endured hardships and were tough as nails. They were willing to fight it out to the end-- that is undeniable. But ring technicians they were not.

SRL is a top 10 but he never actually beat a prime Duran at his natural weight, who is also in my top 10. Anything above 135 and Roberto just wasn't the same fighter, small guy. Granted he had great success when he moved up but that goes toward how great he actually was because he never was the class of fighter he was at lightweight. Still Roberto is the only guy to beat SRL in his prime and he did it at 147.
Floyd vs. an in shape Wilfredo Benitez would be a great fight and I think Benetiz would've beaten him.

Forget Floyd... what about Cotto?
He didn't fight for 2 years and first fight back he's a World Champion.... for probably the 20th time.
Moral of the story is that boxing is so **********d and corrupt that virtually any metric you use to judge somebody's greatness will be flawed.
