Because the ducker Stevenson is and has been #2 at LHW. Ward had the balls to actually PROVE his greatness against #1!!

For Ward to fight the PAPER champ stevenson now, he would be going backwards.

And he didn't just beat #1 @ LHW, he made him fkin quit in 7!

Ward deserves to go where he pleases at this point.

So wars gets bs decision 1st fight, wins by lowblow in rematch, and now he trying to talk **** to a guy on a 9-10 fight knockout streak. All at the same time trying to fight a guy Stevenson already viciously knocked out cold in bellew. Ward aint fooling me. He gotknocked down by kovalev and Stevenson hits wayy harder than him. Ward scared to fight Stevenson and beterbiev. Amd i doubt hed face Anthony yarde

Not only that but Espinoza was willing to work with Michel to get that Stevenson-Kovalev fight going with it being shown on both Showtime and HBO as they would follow the model of Mayweather-Pacquiao.

“As such, I approached Stephen Espinoza (executive vice president and general manager of Showtime Sports) with the proposal in hopes of submitting a fitting counter proposal. Mr. Espinoza mentioned there was already a template in place for Showtime and HBO to work together from last year’s sensational event with Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, and that there was no reason we couldn’t do the same here.”

Apparently there was a reason to not do the same, as it ultimately ended talks in the eyes of the other side. Duva’s insistence from the very beginning was that the fight must take place on HBO, given the network’s initial investment in both fighters and Kovalev’s current exclusive contract status.

“It’s silly, really,” Michel comments. “They now want to say that because Showtime has only featured Stevenson in two fights (three, counting his appearance on free-to-air CBS, as both are part of CBS Corporation), that they don’t deserve to be involved in this fight.

“That would be like me saying, GYM Promotions had Jean Pascal for most of his career. Therefore, Jean Bedard (Interbox) doesn’t deserve to be involved in his fights with Kovalev. It’s ridiculous. Jean and I had a good run together, but went our separate ways and Interbox is doing a wonderful job in its involvement with him. Showtime has been very good to Adonis and to my fighters. They were willing to partner with HBO to bring to the fans this terrific fight, but it wasn’t good enough.”

On the surface, the latest round of talks between World light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson and unbeaten, unified light heavyweight titlist Sergey Koval

Andre Ward's still acting like he didn't read this.

His plan all along was to let Ward & Kov do all of the hard work and clean out the division, while he took the easy route and then fight the winner for all the belts. Ward's no sucker though, and will probably make "Duck" get in line and earn a shot at the title. No one takes the guy seriously any more, he's delusional like Amir Khan. Wouldn't be surprised if they were best friends...lol.
