Sandy Saddler and Willie Pep?
Why is Pep more popular than Saddler when Saddler beat him 3 times? Was it because of a more chastimatic personality, a more entertaining fighting style, perhaps? Was Saddler a bad guy that should not be liked?

Saddler was the bigger man. Pep just couldn't hurt him. Saddler wasn't as skilled as Pep either. Pep had the better final record (229-11-65 vs 145-16-104).Last edited by McNulty; 09-01-2017, 09:16 AM. -

Pep was 134-1 before the Saddler fights (his lone loss being a non title lightweight fight against HOF ATG Sammy Angott). He had also been involved in a major airpline crash where he was lucky to live and was told he probably wouldn't be able to fight again. He still went on to do amazing things after including beat the much larger Saddler.

Pep was already past his best by the time Sandy met him....and he had a horrendous airplance crash too. both were great, Pep was greater.Comment
