Floyd hand picking isn't a myth.
It continued right up to retirement. Why didn't he go out on his shield? Instead he went out on his terms?
Let's face it his whole career was under his terms, carefully orchestrated.
That's why top 20 atg is fair for Floyd. Floyd didn't even fight the toughest available opponents of his time. And even if he did it doesn't guarantee you top ten. Floyd's era isn't neccesariily the strongest era in hisatoiry, not even close. So you cant afford to then cherry pick as well it will end up bad.

People's memories are foggy at best. I remeber Floyd calling out the best but they were too busy "cherry picking "themselves. And like I said in the initial post, most of the fighters Floyd fought because people wanted to see it.

Merchant said he couldn't beat Gatti. Emmanuel Stewart said he couldn't beat sharmba. Two fights later they both saying it's a mismatch before it starts yet both fighters were on a streak when he fought them.

Boxing analyst been spreading propaganda for years.

And did he hand pick the 2nd fights with Castillo and Madaina? Seems odd for a cherry picker to give rematches to the only 2 fighters who ever came close to beating him. Why didn't Floyd just move on and fight other guys then? He had the Ws vs Castillo and Madaina the 1st time, why give them immediate rematches if he was trying to protect the zero?
There is no serious evidence of Floyd calling out Mosley at 130/135. Anyone can say they want a fight during a post fight interview, but when you know you won't fight them, it's all for show. Floyd never sought out opponents at their best, never in his career. At least not elite level fighters. Of course you probably think Guerrero is elite.

This was taken from a Mosley interview that explains who called out who and the timeline.

Mosley: Like I said, he’s really a liar. He likes to lie a lot. In 1999 there’s a film where he’s fighting in Michigan when he was fighting at 130 and I was fighting at 135, and I asked him, like when HBO does the prefight analysts talk to the fighters before they fight. I talked to him, and hopefully it’s recorded somewhere—I think it was on FX—I asked him, “Are you planning on coming up to lightweight to fight me?” And he said, “No,” He had no intention of coming to lightweight to fight me, he wanted t beat Carlos Monzon’s record. He didn’t want to come to lightweight. That’s when I jumped from lightweight to welterweight to fight Oscar De La Hoya. That was the first incident that he’s talking about, so he turned me down in 1999.

Now, the other time he’s talking about is when I fought three times—one, two, three, back-to-back-to-back—and they tried to rush me to fight him right away, like two or three months later. I said, give me a month, and we’ll do it like, I think it was in January—I said, “We’ll do it in January”. They wanted to do it in like November or December, and I said, “Give me a month and we’ll do it in January or February.” They didn’t want to do that. So they chose to fight Oscar De La Hoya. I said, “Go ahead and fight Oscar, and if you beat Oscar, then let’s get busy. Let’s do this.” He beat Oscar—he didn’t want to fight me.

He’s been turning me down. I hate when he continues to say, “Oh, he turned me down because of a tooth ache”. Yeah. I got head butted in that fight that and my tooth was loose that night. They asked me to fight Mayweather and I said, “Give me an extra month, and I’ll fight him.” He didn’t want to fight me, which was cool. He could go and fight Oscar because that’s more money. Okay. That’s cool, but after that fight if you win—fight me. He didn’t want to do that. He chose to retire or fight somebody else. I’m getting tired of that lie! They need to wipe that lie out of there. The reporters and stuff, they keep saying it, so that lie needs to be talked about.

Well this might have just closed this thread down lol

Anyway, it's not just that there's one or even 2 issues of Mayweather avoiding fighters which might get twisted, he made a whole career out of it.

Mays best welter opponents are Baldomir, Judah, Hatton, shot Mosley and almost shot Pac...wheres Cotto, Marg, Williams, Bradley, Khan and the Pac we all wanted him to fight?

What happened to Mayweather fighting Kostya at 140? Why did that never happen? Kostya was THE MAN at the weight and yet May fought gatti lol Then he jumped up.

If I can make al ist of a level names may avoided longer than a list of a level names he faced, what does that tell us about his resume?

Mayweather and I've said this for years now, has the single most corporately created, media managed career in the history of this sport. Ward may challenge him for that one day.

I disagree, Ward may be son of judges and son of referees but he had the balls to face Prime A-level fighters at their best weight. Floyd on the other hand already has the judges and the referee but still only chooses Prime B-level fighters.

I meant more in terms of his media created "legacy". For example, Ward has been part of most p4p lists for the last half a decade and yet, there was a period of 3+ years where he did not fight a single world level opponent, let alone truly upper tier, great names. Why was that the case?

And Ward's resume is severely inflated. He beat Froch ,a very good fighter and should get props for that but what else does he have? 2 robberies over Kov (I don't much bother with the second ifght because KOv himself looked like ****) and then? Abraham? Froch beat him better. Bika? Post prime, Calzaghe faced a better version. Kessler? Ward should have been DQd.

In fact, he is worse than May in the sense that at the very least Mayweather had astounding skill. Ward is a basic, jab jab, right hand, clinch, elbow, fighter. He has nothing beyond that, as evidenced in Kov 1 andm ore startingly, the Smith fight.

Good interview quotes . i respect that you brought up evidence to support your point.

In 1999 Floyd had been the super feather weight champ for a year and had about 20 total fight. While mosely had about 30 fights and had been the champ at light weight for about two years. I don't think it's that it's unreasonable that Floyd didn't want to right away jump to lightweight.

Mayweather was chasing the money. Of course he constantly called out Mosely and others.

He ducked until he saw them decline significantly. Floyd HIMSELF admitted that he waited on opponents until he saw his best chances of winning. Perhaps you know more about Floyd than the man himself.
