Max Kellerman - "Connor wasn't even trying to hit that hard."

    Thoughts?
    Being an honest commentator?

Max Kellerman, here's the actual quote:
    - "Conor McGregor, as most great fighters have, has an extremely high fighting-IQ. It's the reason he didn't really hit Mayweather with anything hard. He didn't load up on any punches...

Because Conor is smart enough to know, 'if I try to load-up on something, I'm not going to hit Floyd'... so he quick-punched him. He used his speed and hit him with arm-punches..."

Which is what I thought, and what Joe Rogan said too.

when will people realize just because u can punch in the octagon doesn't mean u can punch in a boxing ring too. everything is different, it's ez to throw haymakers against those punching bags in the ufc, but this **** won't work against a pro boxer. teddy atlas the only one who made sense, he said conor is like floyd a counter puncher, and i agree with him. conor's power is way too overrated, maidana & mosley punch much harder than him.

It looked to me like he was trying to emulate Lomachenko in some ways, using throwaway shots to draw the counter, physically pulling Mayweather's guard down at times, and trying to spin him and then punch around the guard. He was just too ungainly to pull it off

There's a distinction, no doubt. The body is trained to specialize in different forms, but this is as much about gameplan as technique.

It was Conor's intent not to throw the big shots. He was more measured than he is in MMA. So we didn't get to see Conor employ his power in the ring against Floyd.

He had no power period. They only showed a few seconds of the Paulie sparring but he had no power there when he hit paulie with a flush straight left. I thought maybe he was just fatigued and throwing arm punches but then he hit mayweather with an uppercut in the 1st that had zero effect.

Power in MMA isnt the same as power in boxing. Mayweather hits ALOT harder than conor. Conor punches at a paulie M level or worse.

Basically, what he is saying is that Conor did not commit on his punches. Otherwise they would be telegraphed and easy to defend. He needed to keep them out in front of him thrown from the shoulder without a lot of torque on them. Some fighters can get a lot of pop on their punches from a short distance, others need more of a wind up. Joe Louis had the six inch punch that could KO an opponent from that distance because his power traveled from the ball of his foot, through the hip. Conor's punches were likely thrown strictly off the shoulder in order to land and score. Slightly more powerful than pitty-pat punches that are thrown to score and keep an opponent off balance.
