Or maybe it's a case of both of those things happening?

What's your goal here? Highest amount of ******ed posts in one week?

Once he and his camp realized what he was still working with (all-time great boxing brain, severely underrated toughness, top-level skill on the inside, that crisp lead right hand, stamina for days), the gameplan changed. You add the hand issue that Floyd apparently picked up halfway through camp, and you end up with the fight that Floyd fought.

Eliminate the hand issue and Floyd likely has the same fight, though he turns it up earlier and likely pushes up the stoppage decision to the 8th round
This is my take too. Floyd was honest with himself in camp and developed a strategy based on what he could still do. He was throwing bombs near the end, he missed a ton of them, but had Conor reeling. And Conor was tired sure, but he was also close to being KOed, he was getting rocked.

Exactly. There's only so much you can do when you have been out of the ring/training for nearly two years.

It's both. Floyd is old. He's 40. Don't kid yourself. You're out of your physical prime at 30. By the time you're 40, you've diminished. That's everybody. He did also try for the ko. That much is obvious.

he looked sloppy in there. obviously sloppy 40 year old mayweather is a great distance away from 170lb 29 year old first pro fight conor.

I think it's a bit of both. He is older, less elusive, less reaction time speed. Even off on his timing. But he fought that style too as it was also the best game plan to back conor up and keep him moving backwards.

No excuses, he said he would make it entertaining, he said he was going forward & he ask Conor if he can take what he can give ALL BEFORE the FIGHT....that's exactly what happened. Stop trying to find a way to discredit Floyd....Peace.
